Based on Yu Hashimoto's rom-com and cosplay-themed Japanese manga series, the anime follows Masamune Okumura, the president of his high school's manga club. As a full-fledged otaku, Masamune has less interest for the real-life, "3D" girls.

Instead, he is obsessed with fictional girls, especially the 2D character Liliel, who is his favorite. Yet, everything changes when Ririsa Amano, a cheerful girl joins Masamune's manga club. The protagonist discovers that Ririsa is as much an otaku as himself.

What's more, her favorite character is also Liliel. Besides the girl's intense love for manga and video games, Masamune finds that she has an immense passion for cosplay. The boy is awestruck when Ririsa cosplays his favorite character, Liliel.

Masamune's daily life changes when Ririsa requests him to become her photographer. Gradually, he begins to feel emotions of love for the girl, and the boundary between 2D and 3D blurs for him. As such, the anime focuses on Masamune and Ririsa's chemistry and showcases the unique world of cosplay.
