Fall 2024 anime that have already fallen off
1) Uzumaki
Kicking off this list is Junji Ito's horror series, Uzumaki. This was a highly anticipated release when its four-episode premiere was announced in 2019. After waiting a long five years, the anime began to drop on September 28, 2024. Fans tuned into their nearest streaming platform to catch a glimpse.
However, many were left disappointed by what they witnessed. While the first episode looked promising, the rest of the releases seemed to be not up to the mark.
There were complaints of poor animation, rushed work by the voice artists, improper drawing, linework and lipsyncing. Fans were also left unhappy that parts of the main story were left out, affecting the overall context.
2) Yakuza Fiancé
Next up is the anime adaptation of Asuka Konishi's manga, Yakuza Fiance. Produced by Studio DEEN, there was an initial buzz about the release of the episodes. However, the studio's approach with a slightly different anime style did not sit too well with fans.
Not to be mistaken, there is a section of fans who are onboard with the anime. But there are others who seem to be disappointed. For one, there looks to be considerable criticism with the animation style and quality. Again, some fans do mind the adult themes in the anime as well.
3) Blue Lock Season 2
Finally, likely one of the most anticipated Fall 2024 anime series was the second season of Muneyuki Kaneshiro's Blue Lock. Following the success of the first season, expectation were sky high for the next phase of the Blue Lock trials and for the Blue Lock XI to take on the Japan U20s.
While the first episode set the stage for the Third Selection, the next two episodes gravely dashed fans' expectations. Animation quality seemed to be downgraded by a major bit and fans called the scenes of the matches unsatisfactory. To be fair, Studio 8bit did do a good job animating the players' aura through different colors.
But apart from that, everything else did not live up to the hype. Anyhow, fans have not yet been deterred, as they are hoping that the Blue Lock XI vs Japan U20s could potentially save the anime.
Fall 2024 anime that are going strong
1) Dandadan
At the other end, the anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu's Dandadan has enjoyed a roaring success upon release. Alongside Blue Lock season 2, this was another majorly anticipated anime when it was announced. To put it plainly, Studio Science Saru has done a stellar job and it is quite evident just three episodes in.
Animation quality, colors, background scores, visuals, direction, voice acting, etc. are all on point. Moreover, the pacing has been done well too, already introducing us to a major supporting character in Seiko Ayase or Grandma Seiko. The fourth episode is close to release at the time of writing this article and is expected to be as good as the previous three.
2) Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War
After a wait that seemed to drag on forever, the next arc of the super-popular series Bleach was announced. There was a palpable excitement in the air surrounding the release of Thousand Year Blood War, an arc that considerably impressed manga lovers.
Needless to mention, Studio Pierrot delivered and made the wait worth it for fans. Moreover, the animation team witnessed the return of Bleach veterans like Shiro SAGISU (musician) and Masashi Kudo (character design), adding to their firepower. From animation to music to direction, Bleach announced its return.
3) Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World Season 3
Finally, Re: Zero - Starting Life in Another World concludes this list with the release of its third season. This has been anime which has been popular with fans since it began releasing its first season. From the drama elements to the characters to the animation and background scores, White Fox has hit the target.
Even with this third season, fans are delighted at the job done and wait eagerly week to week to witness the continuation of the story. The storytelling has been excellent and enhanced further, thanks to the expert direction of Masahiro Shinohara. The first three episodes have received a great reception and the following ones also should.
