In the modern era, it is hard to find anime series that are free of the mixed opinions of the masses. While a series is loved for several reasons by a large part of the society, it can also be axed by others for reasons that may be perceived as logical or illogical.
For instance, Demon Slayer is a generation-defining anime, known for its naive protagonist who pitied even the cruelest of monsters. However, for other fans, the series was only carried by its over-the-top animation, as it was animated by studio Ufotable.
Similar to this, there are many other series that get hate for reasons that are not unanimously acknowledged. This article will take a look at five such series, alongside five others that deserve criticism for some point in them that don't make sense.

No Game No Life and 4 other anime series that get too much hate
1) Boruto: Naruto Next Generations
Boruto is the sequel to one of the Big Three of Shounen and is a series centered around Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto Uzumaki. At the beginning of the series, it was because of the protagonist that the show was hated. His personality was that of a little child who only wanted his demands to be fulfilled.
Later on, below-average animation and filler arcs added to the hate, thus making it one of the most hated Shounen anime series. However, Boruto Uzumaki's personality changed later on, making the story decent enough for most fans to return and give it another chance.
That being said, it remains one of the most hated anime series.
2) No Game No Life
No Game No Life is, arguably, the most popular isekai anime series. It follows Sora and Shiro who are transported into another world where everything is decided through games. During its airing, the season was hyped a lot by the fans and was even declared 'the best anime,' which compelled fans of every genre to try it.
As expected, the 'isekai' twist didn't sit well with most fans, becoming the reason for its hate from every fandom. No Game No Life was a genre-defining series that was hyped by its fans and the over-hyping of it became the reason for its hate.
3) One Piece
The story of a boy who dreams of becoming the Pirate King, One Piece is a Shounen anime series that is centered around Monkey D Luffy. The series started airing in October 1999 and has compiled more than 1000 episodes.
This number of episodes is the reason behind the hate for the series, as fans think it is hard to take out time of 1000 episodes. The series has few filler episodes as compared to other Shounen anime. While the filler arc is the best in the anime, it still receives hate to this day because of its episode count.
4) Guilty Crown
Guilty Crown is a mecha anime series centered around Shuu who acquired a grand power and was given the responsibility to save Japan from evil. Unfortunately, Shuu was a weak protagonist, which doesn't sit well with the Mecha genre.
Additionally, it was the climax of the series that left a bitter taste in the mouths of fans. The climax showed Shuu going blind and losing the female protagonist, Inori, to the villains. This led to the series getting a lot of hate.
While not all the series have a happy ending, the not-so-happy ending of Guilty Crown had even its fans hating the series.
5) Clannad
Considered by most fans the most emotional anime series, Clannad follows Nagisa and Okazaki. It shows how Okazaki finds new hope to live every day after witnessing the happiness of Nagisa. Although the series had an amazing run throughout its airing, its controversial ending became the reason for its hate.
The series ended with showing two timelines, one in which both Nagisa and Okazaki were together and one in which one of them died. This is related to the source of the series, a visual novel, that had multiple endings. However, since the studio didn't stick to one ending, the series received a lot of hate.
Hunter x Hunter and 4 other anime series that don't get enough criticism
1) SSSS Gridman
SSSS Gridman is a modern-day mecha anime series that follows Yuta, who has the power to operate a giant robot and tried saving Japan with its friends. The series was known for its unique character designs and ending song, but it also relied on something that wasn't part of its genre.
The series' relied on fanservice, specifically centered around the female protagonists Rika and Akane. Although the fanservice wasn't explicit, the series became known for it which wasn't fair to the mecha fans. So, the series can be criticized for this purpose.
2) Another
Another is a horror anime series which is centered around Kouichi who returns to school after some years to witness strange incidents. The series is one of the most popular horror anime recommendations.
Unfortunately, the horror element in the series is pretty lukewarm, which mainly consists of loud noises. Not only this series, but every horror anime falls under this category as this genre is not for adaptation into an anime.
Although Another is still known as a good horror anime, it can be criticized for certain elements.
3) Hunter x Hunter
One of the most popular Shounen anime series, Hunter x Hunter is centered around Gon who dreamt of becoming a hunter to catch up to his father who left when he was just a baby.

The series is known for its complicated power scaling, Nen, which is also the reason for which it can be criticized. While some fans get a hold of how Nen works, most complain about it being too complex.
4) Seven Deadly Sins
Seven Deadly Sins is a Shounen anime series that started strong and fell into the rabbit hole of mediocre animation. It follows Meliodas who helps Elizabeth gather the Seven Deadly Sins to protect the Kingdom of Liones.
Although the series is known for its mediocre animation, its biggest flaw is the overuse of fanservice, even though it is not an Ecchi anime series. Although the fanservice never escalated to an 'explicit' extent, it didn't suit the series' theme, due to which it can be criticized.
5) Bleach
One of the Big 3 of Shounen, Bleach is an anime series that focuses on Ichigo, who was forced to become a Soul Reaper and was held responsible for taking care of Hollows in his town. The anime series follows the "revealing your power to the enemy trope." While this isn't a new trope in this genre, Bleach takes it to another level.
This trope has never resulted in any major defeat on the protagonist's side. However, it is annoying to see how the fights are already decided in favor of the protagonist despite the antagonist having an idea of the former's powers. Surprisingly enough, most people don't have a problem with this but the series can receive criticism on this aspect.
