9 reasons why Rohan Kishibe having Heaven's door will change the game in Jojolands

With the reveal of Rohan

With the release of JoJoLands chapter 4 on Thursday, May 18, 2023, fans saw the series confirm its version of Rohan Kishibe to be the same as Diamond Is Unbreakable’s. While there appear to be some minute differences in the way each utilizes their shared Heaven’s Door Stand, fans are confident that both are essentially the same.

This latest JoJoLands revelation has motivated many fans to begin theorycrafting about the potential implications on the series’ universal split such a discovery has. Likewise, there are a few game changing plot twists that could be coming if fans are interpreting Rohan’s presence in the new universe accurately.

JoJoLands chapter 4 sets up major possibilities for new and old universe characters and cameos alike

1) Some characters are universally constant

The most basic interpretation of the significance of JoJoLands’ Rohan Kishibe having Heaven’s Door is that some characters may be universally constant. In other words, across the original JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure universe and the new one that began with part 7, Steel Ball Run, some characters may only have one variant of themselves.

Rohan is the key example of this, which fans have pointed out since his initial appearance. With the confirmation that the new universe’s Rohan also has Heaven’s Door, fans are fairly certain that this rule will be proven true.

2) Universal counterparts

On the other hand, there could be some subtle difference that fans haven’t picked up on yet or a major one which hasn’t been addressed or highlighted. Discussing the former topic, some fans feel they’ve found something significant in the way that the new universe’s Rohan utilizes the powers of his Heaven’s Door Stand.

As seen in JoJoLands chapter 4, the new universe’s Rohan seemingly needs to physically touch his targets to use Heaven’s Door on them. However, in Diamond Is Unbreakable, the original universe’s Rohan doesn’t need to worry about such a prerequisite. In any case, a reveal could come which shows that no matter how similar universal counterparts are, at least something will always be different.

3) Original universe may have had new universe characters

Similarly, Rohan’s presence in JoJoLands thus far suggests that the universal counterpart/constant street can run both ways. In other words, new-universe exclusive characters such as Gyro Zeppeli, Josefumi Kujo, Funny Valentine, and more could have also existed in the original universe.

While this is impossible to prove since the original universe’s events didn’t show these characters existing, they could have had counterparts in the original universe in theory. Unfortunately, this theory is unlikely to be proven or disproven barring commentary on the matter from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s mangaka, Hirohiko Araki.

4) Stands can be repeated

If some subtle or major difference between the two Rohan Kishibes is proven in JoJoLands, it would imply that Stands can be repeated through the universes. Although the JoJoLion appearance of the new universe’s Joseph Joestar and his Hermit Purple-esque Stand showed that there can be similarities, Heaven’s Door would be a repeated Stand.

While one could argue that the aforementioned suspected difference in activation requisites makes the two different, it’s hard to actually build an argument off of this. After all, if the two Stands have the same name, are able to do the same things, and only have one small difference in activation method, how different are they really?

5) Appearances from counterparts of original universe characters

Whether JoJoLands’ Rohan Kishibe is a universal counterpart or proving a universal constant, his existence implies that other previous characters can “reappear” in the new universe. With Rohan’s appearance, a Pandora’s Box of possible cameos has been opened up, with fans especially focused on old villains and JoBros returning.

Especially intriguing about such a possibility is whether or not the use of essentially the same Stands will also be a constant amongst these cameos. While fans won’t know until they actually happen, it’s an exciting topic of conversation for readers of the current part.

6) Two-time JoBros

To devote more time to the aforementioned possible (and hoped for) reappearance of JoBros by fans, the possibilities could be seemingly endless here. A superteam of the best of the best JoBros could in theory be assembled by Jodio and Dragona Joestar, with Rohan seemingly set to be the first of their extended group. Fan-favorites such as Noriaki Kakyoin, Caesar Zeppeli, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and more are excitedly being pitched by fans online.

7) Two-time villains

Similarly, this all-star team of JoBros could be matched by a League of Villains-esque gathering of the franchise’s biggest baddies and their incredibly powerful Stands. Pucci’s C-MOON or even Made In Heaven, Diavolo’s King Crimson, and Yoshikage Kira’s Killer Queen teaming up could make for an exciting final battle for JoJoLands. While this is purely theoretical, it’s nevertheless an interesting concept.

8) JoJoLands really could be referencing a land of JoJos

One exciting theory that has come up since the release of the series’ latest chapter is what the title of JoJoLands could actually mean. In light of Rohan having Heaven’s Door, some are asserting that the title will actually come to reference a “land full of JoJos.”

The series’ previous eponymous protagonist for all eight previous parts could eventually reappear, teaming up in Hawai’i for a currently unknown end. While this is speculative, it certainly makes sense given what fans currently know about Rohan’s reappearance and the series itself.

9) Funny Valentine's Stand is the universal split

The existence of what is essentially the same Rohan Kishibe (as far as fans currently know) in both universes may also suggest something about the nature of the universal split. Fans may remember that Steel Ball Run's Funny Valentine had the Stand Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (D4C), which established the existence of a multiverse for the series.

Likewise, the rules of D4C established that there exists a “base world” that is identical to all others except for having the Saint’s Corpse. This means the identities, powers, and experiences of people remain constant between these multiverses. With this in mind, Rohan’s reappearance heavily suggests that the D4C Stand is the universal split from the original universe to the current one.
