A BL manhwa gave Gojo more respect than Jujutsu Kaisen ever did

Jujutsu Kaisen has finally ended after 6 long years and with 271 chapters released. Creator Gege Akutami announced at the beginning of 2024 that the manga was slated to conclude this year. However, the sudden information that the story would end in 5 chapters following the release of its 266th chapter was surprising to many, as fans felt that the story had a number of loose ends.

Nonetheless, true to his word, Akutami wrapped things up in the most positive way possible - previously presumed dead characters actually survived, Megumi Fushiguro was saved, Nobara Kugisaki returned and Ryomen Sukuna was defeated for good (seemingly). Just one thing that left fans quite displeased was how the absence of Gojo Satoru from the final chapter.

As this was a heavily anticipated event, fans' wishes seemed to be fulfilled in another series entirely, a manhwa, titled, Just Twilight. The masked sorcerer was seen in an interesting situation which led to hilarious speculations.

Disclaimer: This article is speculative in nature and assumes that the character showcased is Jujutsu Kaisen's Gojo Satoru.

As per popular opinion, the cherry on top for the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen would have been Gojo Satoru's return. Since his death in chapter 236, the fandom had their fingers crossed and were praying hard for Akutami to somehow weave Gojo back into the story, alive and well. But to their disappointment, the manga ended with no sign of the Six Eyes user.

However, an entirely different category of media seemed to depict Gojo in an interesting situation. A manhwa titled Just Twilight, with 44 officially released chapters, showcased Gojo on an airplane peacefully reclined in his seat. For those curious, this panel can be found in chapter 31 of the manhwa. Needless to say, once this observation surfaced, a string of theories began to form.

While some were outright hilarious, one in particular could be linked back to Akutami's series and it is certainly plausible. According to the theory, following his death, Gojo was seen reuniting with his comrades in what looked like an airport. It might not have been explicitly mentioned, but it definitely resembled one. Anyhow, his destination is what the theory speculated.

As fans will remember, in the afterlife, Kento Nanami placed the choice before Gojo - Head North to begin anew and Head South to return to your old self. Judging by the characters present at the airport, a lot of them went South and hence returned to their past selves. But Gojo has never been one to abide by anything much really.

So, Gojo being Gojo, likely chose to head North, meaning he would begin anew. However, nothing was revealed after that. We still do not know which way Gojo actually went and what happened. Many will argue that Gojo returned as Yuta Okkotsu (his body being used, specifically), but that was simply Yuta using Kenjaku's technique to weaponize his sensei's abilities as a contingency.

Whatever the case may be, this is one of Jujutsu Kaisen's great mysteries. The theory further goes on to state that Gojo appearing in Just Twilight on an airplane was in fact him heading North. Since the journey there was long, he needed to catch a flight and thus chose to relax on the way to his destination. Many felt that other series were doing Gojo justice by glimpsing him over Jujutsu Kaisen's decision to weaponize him before never showing him again.
