A final Jujutsu Kaisen databook wouldn't fix the series' ending, and it's obvious why

Jujutsu Kaisen has recently ended and there have been some fans discussing the possibility of releasing a new databook where author Gege Akutami could provide information to fix all the unresolved plot points in the series.

While the idea behind this has good intentions, the sad truth of the matter is that it won't fix the ending of the series because of the rarity of databooks and how most fans don't consume them.

In most cases when it comes to stories, supplementary material is rarely the way to fix the problems that a project may have and won't be any different with Jujutsu Kaisen.

There are major plot points, such as Sukuna and Kenjaku's backstories, the name of Yuji Itadori's Domain Expansion, or even Satoru Gojo's clan, that should have been explained within the manga and not through other sources.

Explaining why Jujutsu Kaisen's ending won't be fixed by releasing a databook

While a databook would certainly be a helpful choice for author Gege Akutami to explain some unresolved plot points and other elements of the story, there is a strong argument to be made that it would be a case of too little, too late.

That is because the moment to explain these points was during the events of the manga and not with supplementary material.

Something such as Ryomen Sukuna's backstory, which audiences only got a glimpse of during the final chapter, needed to be explored within the manga, especially considering that the final arc was centered around defeating him.

Satoru Gojo's role as a weapon by Jujutsu society and used by his clan was a massive plot point of his character but his family is never shown or explained.

A character like Kenjaku was a key factor in developing the entirety of the series and was never given much of a backstory, which would make that addition through a databook all the more frustrating.

That is especially telling when Akutami spent a few of the final chapters of the manga adding lore to the Simple Domain technique and the characters analyzing the recently concluded final battle.

More reasons why a databook won't fix the ending

It is also worth pointing out that a Jujutsu Kaisen databook is not going to fix all the questions that people have and there is no certainty what Akutami is going to focus on.

That was recently shown in the final chapters with the aforementioned case of the Simple Domain, adding more info about Sukuna's past in his final scene, or Takaba with a Kenjaku look-alike.

A good example was how the vast majority of the fandom was begging for a Heian-era flashback and providing that information on a databook would only beg the question of why it wasn't added in the actual manga.

It is also worth pointing out that a databook won't complete Megumi Fushiguro's character arc, give Nobara Kugisaki more time on the series, or develop individuals such as Maki Zen'in or Yuta Okkotsu.

Final thoughts

To summarize, a Jujutsu Kaisen databook would be a nice addition to the franchise but is not going to fix all the issues with the ending. If Akutami decides to publish a new one and add important information, it would make the omission from the manga all the more baffling.
