My Hero Academia has introduced numerous characters with extensive backstories, each carrying long-lasting effects that directly tie into their conduct and character design. Todoroki, one of the tritagonists of the series, is a prime example of this situation. His power, design, and demeanor are all direct results of Endeavor's deplorable conduct toward his family.

A particular scene where Todoroki gives advice on Midoriya on how to escape the police might actually serve as another glimpse into Todoroki's early life. It also shows the events that led him to gain knowledge about police surveillance and how to become undetectable. Given Endeavor's relationship with his family, it is almost certain that Shoto might have tried to escape from his house numerous times, leading him to develop knowledge about police investigations and how they track suspects.

My Hero Academia: Todoroki's familiarity with escaping surveillance might be because of Endeavor

Shoto Todoroki made his debut in Chapter 6 of the manga and soon established himself as one of the more intriguing characters in the entire cast.

Most of the initial hype around his character stemmed from his confident and cold-hearted nature exemplified during his training. However, a lot of the intrigue was also due to his unique character design, split into two halves with white and red colors, along with ice and fire motifs.

Later arcs revealed Todoroki's status as Endeavor's son and how Todoroki was more akin to an experiment and a prize that Endeavor pursued in hopes of somehow surpassing All Might.

Endeavor relentlessly pursued All Might’s position as the top hero throughout his life, but his fire quirk ultimately became a deterrent to his goal. Endeavor essentially married Rei to combine her ice quirk with his fire quirk, hoping to create an entity that would surpass All Might.

This pursuit gradually devolved into outright abuse by Endeavor toward his family. Given Todoroki's hatred toward Endeavor and his behavior towards his family, it is almost guaranteed that Todoroki tried to escape numerous times, only to end up in his father’s house.

Given Endeavor’s status as the Number 2 hero, it is almost certain he could simply request police surveillance. As Endeavor's most prized possession, Todoroki might have been subjected to this surveillance during his early years. This might have led to him developing knowledge of how to evade police detection by removing his phone batteries.

Endeavor might have tracked Todoroki numerous times throughout his life through similar methods, making him acutely aware of the possibilities. While the scene from My Hero Academia Movie 3: World Heroes' Mission lasts just over three seconds, it serves as a powerful testament to the complex relationship between Endeavor and Shoto.
