The Five Elders in One Piece are some of the most overpowered and sinister beings. Not only do they have amazing devil abilities, but it is also debated among the fandom that these five World Government leaders could also be immortal due to the Op-Op fruit's immortality surgery.

But this claim brings into question what Law's immortality surgery could be. Could it be similar to his 'Room' ability where the pirate creates an area in which he can manipulate the bodies of the people present inside that space?

It is speculated that he could cut off the parts of people's souls using the Immortality surgery. Similar to Horcrux from, arguably, the most famous supernatural novel adaptation, Harry Potter.

One Piece: Exploring the speculated relationship between Gorosei's immortality and the Horcrux from the Harry Potter series

The Gorosei also referred to as the Five Elders, are the leaders of the World Government and the people who have the highest authority in One Piece. Despite making their first appearance in chapter 233/episode 151 of One Piece, it wasn't until the final saga that they officially appeared in the story.

The first Gorosei that appeared was Saint Saturn who was dispatched from the Holy Land of Mariejois alongside Kizaru and some Marine Officers because the CP0 couldn't kill Dr Vegapunk. He made a flashy appearance by summoning himself in the middle of the battlefield, in a form that combines the appearance of a human and a devil.

After killing Vegapunk, a stream started all around the world and to avoid any more blunders, Saint Saturn summoned the other four elders to Egghead Island. These five monsters wreaked havoc as soon as they arrived on the island, in hopes of stopping Vegapunk's stream. As of the latest chapter, chapter 1121, Vegapunk's stream is still ongoing.

Despite their devil powers being as overpowered as they look, there is another thing about these beasts that is particularly strange. Despite being injured numerous times, they returned all recovered as if they were immortal.

Kuma broke Saint Saturn's leg, the Iron Giant broke Saint Warcury's tooth. Many other scenarios have been showcased where the Gorosei have been injured but the next scene shows them recovered. Alluding that these beasts could be immortal, but how could that be possible?

Immortality is linked to the devil fruit powers of Trafalgar D Water Law, the Op-Op fruit. The fruit allows the pirate to create a room (an operation theater) where he can manipulate the bodies of people that are present in the premises of his room. But there is one ability of this devil fruit that is unexplored and could be one of the strongest abilities in the series, the Immortality surgery.

Donquixote Doflamingo was after Law's fruit because he wanted to achieve immortality using it. But Donquixote Rosinante fed it to Law. Immortality Surgery could indeed give the patient immortality but how does it work and which part of the body does it modify?

It could be related to operating the person's soul and dividing it into different pieces. Each piece would be hidden in different places, thus making it hard to kill the person upon whom the surgery was performed.

So, the Gorosei could have achieved their immortality through this process. To further explain this surgery, let's look at something that could be similar to it but from another media.

The Harry Potter franchise is one of the most successful series. The series features an object called the Horcrux. The Horcrux is any living or non-living entity that has the fragment of another person's soul. Spreading their soul fragments into different Horcruxes, a person can achieve immortality through this process.

Voldemort, the ultimate antagonist of the series, had divided his soul into seven Horcruxes and achieved immortality. To create a Horcrux, the user must commit a horrific sin/murder which is followed by a spell.

His Horcruxed included objects like a locket, snake Nagini, or a diary, including an accidental Horcrux, ie the body of the protagonist, Harry Potter.

So, similar to Voledmort's Horcruxes, the Gorosei's souls could have been fragmented through the immortality surgery where its user, Law, could be one to get murdered.

They could also have their soul fragments hidden in different places. The animate places could be Zunesha (which could also be the crime she committed) and inanimate places include the Giant Straw Hat located in Mariejois.
