On July 9, 2024, McDonald's will announce its collaboration with the popular Shounen series Jujutsu Kaisen. Before this announcement, the fast food chain updated its profile picture on X and did a lot of promotions hinting at this collaboration.

Previous to this collaboration, the fast food chain has collaborated with various other series like Yu-Gi-Oh, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Pokémon, thus showing its love for Japanese anime.

The news has taken the fans by storm, as the majority of the fandom isn't buying this collaboration since their favorite characters keep dying in the series. On the other hand, some fans imagined fictional items at this fast food chain centered around the techniques of famous characters from the series.

What is the Jujutsu Kaisen x McDonald's collaboration?

On July 1, 2024, the popular fast food chain changed its profile picture on X and uploaded the logo that had cursed energy emerging from behind it. The brand also updated its X bio to "Welcome to my Malevolent Kitchen." The hype kept building up as they updated their app's opening preface to:

"Find the source of energy within... move your phone around to explore the domain and unveil its secrets."

Lastly, the brand's latest post on X talks about 'something specialz,' which is the opening theme song of the series' second season. There is no mention of what kind of collaboration this could be, but as stated in the above tweet, the official statement about this collaboration is set to be unveiled on July 9.

Fans react to the McDonald's x Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration

Firstly, fans claimed that they wouldn't be buying anything from this collaboration considering how the series keeps killing their favorite character, for instance, the recent death of Nanami. But this didn't stop fans from appreciating the beauty of this collaboration.

Some even noticed the six-eyes that were present beneath the fast food chain's app preface, which was indicated towards Gojo Satoru's special gift that helped him use his cursed technique. Meanwhile, some fans imagined their dream meals. One such meal was the cursed chicken fingers, which was a play on the special grade cursed object, Sukuna's cursed fingers.

"Can’t wait to have half a Gojo burger," one fan said.
"They even have six eyes beneath the logo" another one stated.
"N**gas finna start selling cursed chicken fingers" another person said.
"I’ll take a infinite void McFlurry please," a fan commented.

Fast food collaborations are a good way to promote a series because even if anime is not a medium consumed universally by the masses, fast food has become something that could be considered global.

Although there are numerous collaborations with local fast-food joints in Japan regarding every anime series, collaborations with international brands could skyrocket a series' popularity. As Jujutsu Kaisen already has a profound popularity worldwide, this collaboration could make it even bigger.
