Aizen's curiosity could have led to his downfall in Bleach

While Bleach's Sosuke Aizen is one of the strongest characters in the series with possibly the most overpowered Shikai, the character previously made a decision in the Fake Karakura Town that left fans confused.

During his battle against Kisuke Urahara, Aizen did not use his Kyoka Suigetsu. Given how overpowered the Shikai was, it did not make sense for the former Gotei 13 captain to not use the ability against someone as strong as Urahara.

However, there was seemingly a good reason behind Aizen for not using the ability against Urahara. In fact, had Aizen used the technique, he might have lost immediately.

Bleach: Why didn't Sosuke Aizen use Kyoka Suigetsu on Kisuke Urahara?

According to a theory by the YouTube account TheSenpaiYT, the reason why Sosuke Aizen didn't use his Shikai Kyoka Suigetsu on Kisuke Urahara in Fake Karakura Town must have been because he feared Urahara having a possible countermeasure against it.

Fans know that the reason Aizen never used it against Ichigo Kurosaki was because he wanted to test his newfound powers derived from the Hogyoku against someone who could match it.

However, against Kisuke Urahara, it was heavily implied by the manga that Aizen not only wanted to test his strength but also crush the person he considered smarter than himself. This should have been enough reason for Aizen to use his Kyoka Suigetsu against Urahara. So, why didn't he use it?

As per TheSenpaiYT, Kisuke Urahara could have countered the Shikai ability as he was always prepared with a plan. This was even expressed by the manga through Urahara's statement in which he explained that he had plans to cover every possible scenario no matter how unlikely.

As for Kyoka Suigetsu, it had three weaknesses. They are as follows:

  1. Touching the blade makes you immune.
  2. Significantly higher Reiatsu can break its effect.
  3. A person has to see its Shikai release for it to take effect.

Out of these three weaknesses, Urahara was aware of the third weakness, which was more than enough information for him to have set countermeasures in place. While the series did not reveal whether Urahara had a plan or not, the former Gotei 13 captain was smart enough not to have a head-on battle against Aizen without having a plan against a weakness he was aware of.

Additionally, Yoruichi Shihouin and Isshin Kurosaki were also battling Aizen at the time. Hence, Aizen must have known that using Kyoka Suigetsu would either end up pointless or could even backfire somehow.

Thus, to prevent any such possible developments, Aizen was reluctant to use his Shikai ability. Fortunately, his strength had grown immensely due to the Hogyoku, allowing him to dominate the fight against all three of his opponents—Kisuke Urahara, Yoruichi Shihouin, and Isshin Kurosaki—and win.
