Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268: Gege Akutami calls back to some of the anime's greatest moments
After Yuji Itadori successfully separated Ryomen Sukuna from Megumi Fushiguro's body, the King of Curses was reduced to residuals. Although Yuji did give Sukuna a chance to live on inside him, the latter was visibly furious at the proposal and chose to die as a curse.
However, the most memorable part of Yuji's monologue is when he tells Sukuna, "You Are Me." As ardent fans of the series may remember, this line mirrors the infamous scene in the Shibuya Incident arc, where Yuji says "I Am You" to his archnemesis, Mahito, after defeating him.
Apart from this, Gege Akutami also included a callback to one of Jujutsu Kaisen's most popular gags in chapter 268, which brought many fans to the verge of tears.
When Megumi regained consciousness in Jujutsu High, he woke up to find Yuji pushing a cart with Nobara inside towards him, which left him perplexed, to say the least. Upon enquiring what they were up to, Yuji and Nobara said they would surprise Megumi with a "Kugisaki Revival Surprise."
Upon witnessing this scene, fans immediately realized it was another callback to Yuji's infamous "Oppappi" prank on Megumi and Nobara before the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event. For the prank, Yuji made a surprise reappearance out of a cart, which was his way of announcing his return from death. It remains one of the series' most memorable and hilarious moments, especially since it reminded fans of the early days.
Lastly, there was another callback to one of Jujutsu Kaisen anime's most popular moments in episode 21 of the anime's first season. In the scene, Megumi wakes up at the infirmary of Jujutsu High with Nobara and Yuji by his side, following the events of the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event arc.
Seeing Megumi wake up at Jujutsu High surrounded by his friends once again reminded fans of the aforementioned scene of the anime, which was arguably one of the funniest scenes in the entirety of the series.
How Jujutsu Kaisen fans reacted to the callbacks in chapter 268
As one would expect, fans were overjoyed upon witnessing the callbacks to some of the anime's greatest moments in the upcoming chapter 268 of the manga. Some expressed tears of joy upon seeing Yuji and Nobara trying to pull off the "Oppappi" prank on Megumi. Meanwhile, others were captivated by Yuji's "You Are Me" dialogue to Sukuna.
"'I am you' to 'you are me' yuji itadori you moved MOUNTAINS", said one fan.
"'I am you' to 'you are me' this came full circle, yuuji itadori no does it like you", said another.
"Nobara and yuji can finally be idiots together again… I DIDNT KNOW HOW BAD I NEEDED THIS", another chimed in.
On the other hand, some fans were just glad to see the beloved main trio back together again, which many would have considered impossible a few months ago. As such, most fans simply decided to cherish these heartwarming moments with their favorite characters.
"I NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAPPEN MY TRIO IS FINALLY BACK!!", one fan exclaimed.
"I CANT BELIEVE YUJI TRYING TO SURPRISE MEGUMI WITH NOBARA LIKE GOJO DID I'M CRYING" one fan wrote.
"Nobara and yuji are so committed to this “oppappi” thing pls they really tried to surprise megumi im in tears", wrote another.
