The tale of Fushigoro Megumi from Jujutsu Kaisen ended with the character becoming the next head of the Zenin clan. Unfortunately, he couldn't fulfill the only goal in life he had, to save Tsumiki, but he let bygones be bygones and lived for the welfare of his friends. However, the tale of this character might have ended if another character interfered before Megumi was taken into custody by Gojo.
After the heated battle against Toji Fushigoro, Gojo recovered because he awakened his cursed technique. However, Geto couldn't do so because he hadn't perfectly this technique yet. If Geto had recovered and assisted Gojo in beating Toji, the win might have been easier. Moreover, Geto might have taken Megumi into custody, turning him into a killing machine using Megumi's cursed technique.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Exploring Megumi's turning point in life
During the Hidden Inventory arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo and Geto tried to save Riko Amanai, the next Star Plasma Vessel, from getting killed by a secret assassin. However, they couldn't avoid facing this assassin and eventually tackled him. This assassin was Toji Fushigoro, a man devoid of any cursed technique.
Underestimating the assassin led to Gojo getting brutally injured, followed by Geto sharing the same fate as he couldn't save Riko from Toji. However, a few hours later, Gojo returned to Toji fully recovered because he had awakened his cursed technique (which helped him recover through the Reverse Cursed Technique). As the rematch between these two concluded, Toji was brutally killed.
At the last moment, Toji asks Gojo to take care of his son. However, this turning point might have been different if Geto had accompanied Gojo. As Geto didn't know the basics of the Reverse Cursed Technique, he couldn't heal himself. However, if he had paid attention to Shoko's lesson, he might have also received and assisted Gojo in the rematch against Toji.
Moreover, Geto might have volunteered to take the custody of Toji's son given how free-spirited Gojo was and he would have probably given this responsibility to his partner himself. This might have been the point where Megumi's life philosophies might have changed completely,
After the events of the Jujutsu Kaisen's Hidden Inventory Arc, Geto went into mental depression and started blaming non-sorcerers for the chaos of the world. So, he abandoned his place in Jujutsu Tech, gathered some allies who shared the same thinking, and announced war against Jujutsu Tech for a possible world where non-sorcerers didn't exist.
Given he took custody of Megumi, Geto might have manipulated his personality. Megumi might have turned into a killing machine from that point onwards. This might have also given the fans a match between Megumi's Mahoraga and Yuta's Rika during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.
This change might have seen Geto not leaving the main battlefield and fans could have witnessed a battle between these two best friends. Moreover, as expected, this might have also buffed the winning chances of Geto's side in this war. So, Megumi's 'villain arc,' as a subordinate of Geto, might have started before the sorcerer met Itadori Yuji.
Analysis and Final Thoughts
There are a few things to consider before branding it as a 'solid theory.' Megumi might have a soft corner for non-sorcerers given that his life philosophy was to save Tsumiki (a non-sorcerer).
However, the series never specified if Megumi was the same from the very start or if he developed this soft spot after Tsumiki was cursed. Moreover, given Megumi's first interaction with Gojo, he seemed like someone who wouldn't get manipulated easily. However, given Gojo's nature, he would have probably given Megumi to Geto if they were together against Toji.
