Jujutsu Kaisen has had many character-defining moments, with the parting of Gojo and Geto being one of the most prominent ones. Gojo and Geto's friendship was one of the most important factors in Gojo's entire character arc and arguably one of the most important factors in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen story.

Geto falling to the "dark side" and deciding to eradicate the entire non-sorcerer population in order to save all the sorcerers from dying at the hands of cursed spirits eventually led Gojo to kill Geto. Although the actual parting words were heartbreaking for the entire fandom, the draft version of their parting could have made it even more heartbreaking and personal.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Geto and Gojo's parting could've been way more heartbreaking and personal

While Gojo's status as the strongest was already well-established before his awakening, following Amanai's death, he started growing at an astronomical rate, which further resulted in Geto and Gojo growing apart.

This eventually led to Geto fully embracing dark thoughts and deciding upon his non-sorcerer eradication plan. Gojo and Geto's separation was the culmination and key event that eventually led to their character arcs and helped develop Gojo's nurturing side towards the newer generation of sorcerers. Geto and Gojo's parting coined the quote:

"Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo? Or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?"

But Geto's actual parting words were:

"If you want to kill me, kill me. There's meaning in that too."

These words essentially signified how Gojo's choice between killing Geto and letting Geto go would have a big impact on Gojo's own affiliation.

Gojo getting rid of Geto would eventually mean Gojo taking the side of the higher-ups and taking an actual, concrete stance on the entire morality of the situation. The finalized version made great use of Gojo's distressed state and made him choose between his best friend and the non-sorcerer population. Recently, during the Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition, it was revealed that Gege originally planned the parting words to be:

"If you want to kill me, go ahead. I don’t mind being killed by you. Just be careful not to kill anyone besides me."

Unlike the final version, the draft centered around Geto being more personal to Gojo and mentioning how Gojo killing Geto is an end he approves of. In the draft version, Geto also tries to keep Gojo pure by asking him not to target any of the non-sorcerers besides him.

This is essentially a callback to Gojo's previous intentions of eradicating the entire cult that put a bounty on Amanai, an intention that Geto swiftly shut down. The draft version emphasized Geto's relationship with Gojo and what Gojo being a "good person" meant for Geto even during his darkest times.

Final Thoughts

Although the actual opinion on whether the final or draft version is better is divided among the fandom, the draft version would've been a more personal conversation and would've been more heartbreaking than the final one.
