The climax of Jujutsu Kaisen was one of the most controversial ones in Shonen history for the manga fandom. This climax was accompanied by a hoard of unsolved mysteries, like the unsuccessful merger between humanity and cursed energy, Sukuna's unexplored origins and a bunch of other stuff, which left a sour aftertaste for fans of the series.
Other than the unexplored mysteries, there were some other blunders in the series, and the best example of one such event was Megumi's survival after the Shibuya arc. Not only were his services before the Culling Game arc negligible, but he was quite literally used just as a plot device for Sukuna's second coming to defeat Gojo Satoru.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Megumi's death in Shibuya might have worked wonders for the world
During the Shibuya arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, Fushiguro Megumi was critically injured after his battle with a reincarnated Toji Fushigoro. Unfortunately, his worries weren't over because he crossed paths with Haruta Shigemo, who had just escaped the wrath of Kento Nanami. Looking at the chance, Shigemo went all out and was aiming to kill Megumi.
As a last resort, Megumi placed his bets on summoning Mahoraga, the cursed spirit no one could control. However, Ryomen Sukuna arrived in time and saved not only Megumi but also defeated Mahoraga in a heated battle. Luckily, Shoko and Masamichi spotted Megumi from afar and saved his life.
He was later spotted in the Itadori Extermination arc when Megumi asked Itadori for his help to save Tsumiki from the Culling Games. While most of the fandom might disagree, Megumi's death during the Shibuya arc might have done wonders for the upcoming plotline in more than one way.
First and foremost, his only role in the series after Shibuya was to save his sister from the Culling Games. His output in doing so was also negligible because when he and Itadori went to recruit Hakari for the Culling Games, the protagonist did most of the heavy lifting by fighting the former Jujutsu Tech students.
Moreover, his role in the Culling Game arc was also nothing too special because he fought against underwhelming opponents like Reggie Star and others. Sadly, the ultimate outcome of Megumi being alive was for Ryomen Sukuna to change hosts and perfect his incarnation inside Fushigoro Megumi.
That led to the death of numerous sorcerers in the Shinjuku Showdown arc with the spotlight one being Gojo Satoru. If Megumi had second-thought his choices before entering the Culling Games, things would have turned out more peacefully.
Final thoughts
Consider this article just as a piece of entertainment because it explores a scenario that diverts from the main plotline of Jujutsu Kaisen. Megumi's survival could also be considered Sukuna's genius, delicately controlling the entire situation after arriving in time.
However, if Megumi had died during the Shibuya arc, Sukuna might have looked for some other way to fortify his reincarnated form. While detailing it would seem too far-fetched, this situation is still a possibility.
