Akutami's fatal mistake with Hakari might be irredeemable in Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268 marked the demise of the King of Curses and concluded the fight between Uraume and Hakari in the most anti-climactic way. The series hardly gave any insight as to what happened in their battle and which one of them had the upper hand. Moreover, the Jujutsu sorcerer hardly had any character development throughout the series, to top it off.

Calling the failure to explore Hakari as Akutami's fatal mistake in the series could be a hot take. However, it does sit well with the character considering that he has done nearly nothing in the series and was only supported through ridiculous statements about his cursed energy output. Moreover, the biggest part of his spotlight was his domain expansion edits, which became famous online.

Mentioned in the Fearsome Womb arc and making his first appearance in the Perfect Preparation arc, Hakari Kinji was a third-year student at Jujutsu High (Tokyo) until he was suspended after the events of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. After getting suspended, he started his own underground fighting club.

Before the Culling Game arc started, the Jujutsu sorcerers decided to make Hakari join their team as the third-year students claimed that he was one of the strongest sorcerers. Moreover, with Gojo's words backing him up, his support was a must in the upcoming battle against the cursed spirits.

After a heated battle against Hakari and his companion in his underground club, the sorcerers were able to recruit him as a fighter in the Culling Game. Fortunately, with a lot of praise backing him, Hakari delivered in his fight against Kashimo and this was the fight where the most hyped moment of this character happened, his Domain Expansion: Idle Death Gamble.

Although their battle ended in a draw, this was his best performance in the series yet. However, this was also the last one because in the Shinjuku SHowdown arc, he was ghosted and fans hardly got to witness him.

Firstly, he was against Sukuna's subordinate Uraume, who Hakari could have beaten easily if he hadn't prolonged it purposely. Instead of beating Uraume hurriedly and joining the others in battle, he prolonged his battle so that the sorcerers could beat the King of Curses.

Unfortunately, the reverse happened as Ryomen Sukuna kept killing sorcerers who were entering the battlefield. In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268, Hakari won the battle because Uraume's body faded due to Sukuna's demise, and this could be his most disappointing win because he got no character development in this fight and won.

To add to this, Hakari never had any conversation with Gojo Satoru, who backed him with praise. Additionally, he never hit a Black Flash technique, which became a basic after Itadori and company started using it, and he never really won a battle against any enemy as his win against Uraume was just a 'stroke of luck' as both of them claimed.

On the other hand, he was hyped by the third-year students, and had an overly hyped domain expansion, due to its social media buzz. However, he was hardly shown using it when it mattered the most (against Uraume). So, Hakari could be one of Akutami's fatal mistakes that is not redeemable considering there are only a few chapters left in the series.
