Recent weeks in the Chainsaw Man manga series have seen the Chainsaw Devil Pochita’s Devil Erasure powers become a central part of the current narrative. Essentially, any Devil whom Pochita successfully eats is erased from existence, as is the feared concept that they embodied. Human memories and society automatically adjust to compensate for the loss of these Devils and concepts as they are erased.
However, the Chainsaw Man manga has also proven on two separate, recent occasions that Pochita can be made to throw up the Devils he consumes. This was most recently seen with the Mouth and Ear Devils. Yet, while fans are celebrating the return of these two concepts to the series, they’re also curious as to how many Devils Pochita has erased in the series thus far and what they are exactly.
Chainsaw Man manga has seen Pochita erase nearly 20 Devils, but very few onscreen
1) Unnamed Devil seen being eaten in chapter 84
The first Devil whom fans see or are told of Pochita eating in the Chainsaw Man manga is an unnamed Devil who appears in chapter 84. After being transported to Hell, Pochita is seen eating this Devil as Control Devil Makima explains to Kishibe that the Devils Pochita eats have their names erased from existence.
2) Nazi Devil
The Nazi Devil is the next Devil Pochita is said to have consumed, with Makima bringing it up in the continuation of her conversation with Kishibe. Unfortunately, not much else is said here by Makima, but it can be assumed that Pochita ate the Nazi Devil sometime during the Cold War years. This would be when fear of Nazis was at its height after the events of World War II and the Nazi Devil’s inception.
3) WWII Devil
Unfortunately, it seems even the World War II Devil was erased by Pochita, presumably resulting in the entire concept of the war being erased from history. It’s worth emphasizing that this can be separate from the Nazi Devil, as the Nazis were an established group by the mid-1930s. However, there’s not much additional information here as Makima instead continues listing Devils whom Pochita has erased.
4) Arnolone Syndrome Devil
One such Devil that Pochita erased in the Chainsaw Man manga is the Arnolone Syndrome Devil, which fans also get no details on here. However, it can be presumed that Arnolone Syndrome is a type of sickness or disease that has harrowing effects on the body. This would be logical as it would need to generate enough fear from humans to spawn a Devil representing it as a concept.
5) SOA Devil
The SOA Devil is likewise also not given any additional info here, with Makima only mentioning its name to Kishibe in chapter 84 of the Chainsaw Man manga and nothing more. However, it’s mentioned betwixt the Arnolone Syndrome and AIDS Devils, suggesting that it is some sort of horrifying sickness or disease like the other two are.
6) AIDS Devil
Unlike the other Devils mentioned by Makima here, the AIDS Devil requires no further context from Makima as readers are familiar with the disease from real life. Also known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, it’s essentially the most advanced stage of infection for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
The disease attacks the body’s immune system and makes it frail to the point where the human body dies by failing to fend off even simple sicknesses.
7) Nuclear Weapons Devil
The Nuclear Weapons Devil also needs no context or introduction, as it's a real-life concept fans will be familiar with outside of the Chainsaw Man manga. Nuclear weapons also first came about in World War II, so it makes sense that both were erased by Pochita. However, Part 2 could see them come back, with this being War Devil Yoru’s alleged goal for fighting Pochita.
8) Mt. Hio Eruption Devil
The Mount Hio Eruption Devil is unfortunately another Devil whom fans aren’t familiar with and get no additional information on. However, it is one of the more intriguing erasures, as it's unclear what concept would be erased here.
It’s possible that Mt. Hio is simply incapable of erupting anymore or that the entire mountain itself is gone. Unfortunately, fans don’t know for sure either way as of this writing.
9) Sixth Sense Devil
After mentioning the above string of Devil names to Kishibe, Makima discusses “the sixth sense all humans used to have” in the Chainsaw Man manga’s world.
Likewise, if the sixth sense was erased, then it means that Pochita must have erased the Sixth Sense Devil. This also gives some clues as to what the sixth sense may have been, possibly letting humans observe and interact with the supernatural; hence, the fear associated with it.
10) Light of a Star That Breaks Children's Minds Devil
Makima also mentions “the light of a particular star that would break children’s minds” having ceased to exist. Again, this means that Pochita must have eaten and erased a Devil representing this concept. It also makes sense why such a Devil would exist, as the idea of children’s minds being broken would scare both the children themselves and their parents greatly.
11-14) Four Devils representing conclusions other than death at the end of a life
Makima ends her conversation with Kishibe in chapter 84 of the Chainsaw Man manga by referencing “four possible conclusions other than death at the end of living beings’ lifespans.”
While it’s unclear why these other possibilities would be feared, it's clear that they were feared enough to have Devils which Pochita ate and erased. This also suggests that whatever these conclusions may have been were just as feared, if not more feared than death itself.
15) War Devil (partially)
The first Devil mentioned as being consumed in Part 2 of the manga is none other than War Devil Yoru, also one of Part 2’s central characters. Chapter 104 sees her explain that because her body was partially consumed when last fighting Pochita, her power was weakened.
This is why no wars have occurred recently in the series’ world despite the concept remaining. It’s also the only instance of partial consumption fans know of as of this article’s writing.
16) Octopus Devil
Continuing on in Part 2 of the Chainsaw Man manga, the Octopus Devil is the next Devil whom fans see or hear of Pochita erasing, which has yet to be returned as of this article’s writing.
This erasure is also done offscreen, with fans being told about it when they return to Pochita’s perspective at chapter 174’s end. However, fans are very familiar with the Octopus Devil by nature of Hirofumi Yoshida’s contract with and use of it.
17) Snow Devil
The Snow Devil is yet another erasure that is done offscreen, which fans are told about in chapter 174’s final pages. While fans don’t know exactly what the Snow Devil looks like, there are theories that identify it as one of the Special Division 5 members. However, their identity is unconfirmed as of this writing, as is the impact Pochita’s erasure of the Snow Devil is having on the series’ world.
18) Bitterness Devil
The Bitterness Devil is the third of four Devils the Chainsaw Man manga mentions Pochita consuming in chapter 174, with the fourth being the recently freed Mouth Devil. Like the Snow Devil, there are also theories that it is one of the Special Division 5 members, but this is unconfirmed. Also unconfirmed is exactly how the Bitterness Devil’s erasure has impacted the series’ world thus far.
