Sukuna mysteries in Jujutsu Kaisen confused fans throughout the storyline. Even after the release of the final chapter of the long-running series, the creator of the series, Gege Akutami, has left fans with many unresolved questions about the King of the Curses.

Extremely overwhelming and broadly influential throughout the story, some of the nature of Sukuna's origin, capabilities, and intentions were never explained.

Gege Akutami has left in the reader's mind so many Sukuna mysteries that were never brought to light. From his past life as a sorcerer in the Heian Era to the very end, here are the eight Sukuna mysteries that Gege never answered in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen.

1) How Sukuna became a Cursed Object

One of the biggest Sukuna mysteries that Gege left unresolved in the long-running Jujutsu Kaisen series is how Sukuna was able to turn himself into a Cursed Object. It was shown in the series that at the end of his undefeated life, he was approached by Kenjaku and was convinced to join the Culling Game the latter was planning. But we get no clue about the exact procedure or ritual Sukuna had to undergo to become a Cursed Object.

2) Sukuna’s origin

While it was revealed that Sukuna used to be a human sorcerer who later turned into a Cursed Spirit, the exact details of his past life, including his birth and becoming famous in the Jujutsu world, are left unresolved by Gege Akutami.

The manga features only vague references to his time and his reputation as a "Demon King" who strikes even sorcerers' fear. However, how he lived his human life, the extent of his powers before all that changed into a curse, and how he was able to maintain control over his consciousness are never made clear. Making his origin one of the Sukuna Mysteries Gege never explained in Jujutsu Kaisen.

3) Who was the mysterious woman with Sukuna and Uraume

In Jujutsu Kaisen, during his conversation with Mahito, Sukuna briefly mentions a woman with black hair, hinting at two paths his life could have taken him. Whereas one of those choices was Uraume, the identity of the woman connected to the other path is still unknown. Speculations state that she may be Yorozu or even Sukuna's mother; however, no concrete conclusion has been drawn.

Yorozu's obsessive love for Sukuna makes her an unlikely candidate for this pivotal moment in his life, thus leaving the mother theory more plausible. However, Gege Akutami never clarified this; thus, she remained open to speculation, ranking among the Sukuna Mysteries that never got resolved in the manga.

4) Why Uraume helped Sukuna

Throughout the whole story, Uraume acts as Sukuna's loyal subordinate, but the manga never explores the real reason behind this loyalty. Jujutsu Kaisen fans do not have a clue whether their connection is because of a shared history, a binding pact, or some other deep motive.

This mystery also leaves fans questioning what sort of background Uraume may have and what her powers could be that similarly left vague throughout the whole cours of the series. How Uraume ended up serving Sukuna is among the Sukuna mysteries that fans never got an answer to.

5) How Sukuna could use Divine Flame

The fact that Sukuna can use Divine Flame raises huge questions in terms of his cursed techniques. Sukuna chants "Open" and forms an arrow. His ability to generate flames goes beyond Jogo's pyrokinetic destruction skills. Divine Flames raises concern among fans as Sukuna only used slashing attacks like Dismantle and Cleave.

This absence of an explanation for how he can manipulate fire, a skill seemingly unrelated to his known abilities, generates a void in understanding his full power. In addition to this, there is almost no context or background about the origin of the Divine Flame, making it one of the Sukuna mysteries that Gege Akutami never solved.

6) What was Kenjaku's original deal with Sukuna

Although Kenjaku was the central figure in orchestrating the Culling Games and manipulated events significantly in the progression of the story, Gege did not make it known what kind of relationship he had with Sukuna. The two characters were present in two different eras, but the idea of their collaboration or shared goals was implied but never explored in depth.

Was their relationship established earlier, even before Kenjaku revived Sukuna with Yuji, or was it only a casual relationship whereby they coincided with shared goals of disrupting the jujutsu world? The nature of their connection was never clarified making it one of the Sukuna mysteries that remain unresolved.

Final thoughts

Sukuna's character remains one of the most undefined in Jujutsu Kaisen. Many of the critical aspects of his background, connections, or even what makes him so powerful remain unclear even after the conclusion of the manga.

Sukuna mysteries still surround how he was defeated during the Heian Era, his transition into becoming a god, and his strange ability known as Divine Flame among others that all influence the intrigue even at the end of the manga's final chapter.
