On August 11, 2024, animation studio Wit Studio revealed the One Piece remake character designs through a production preview video which featured the staff members that will be taking part in the remake series. The people behind the character designs of the remake will be some veteran animators from the anime industry and their hard work can be seen from the character sketches.
While the character designs from the series did use smooth colors that made them look softer and brighter, the individual designs for the Straw Hats had unique features compared to the original adaptation. Zoro's designs looked more bright whereas Nami's looked more feminine with little intervention in her design.

Exploring the difference between Wit Studio's One Piece remake character designs and the original adaptation
As revealed in the production preview trailer for the remake series, the One Piece remake character designs will be done by Takatoshi Honda, famous for his work on To Your Eternity and In/Spectre, and Kyoji Asano, famous for his work on Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, and Guilty Crown.
The One Piece remake character designs are different but they didn't risk the originality of the characters. The first difference that catches the eye in all designs is the use of smoother colors, which makes the designs look lighter compared to the original ones.
Kyoji Asano revealed that the first One Piece remake character designs he did were 'very different' from the original ones due to which he received criticism and had to resubmit them. So, it became evident that the aim of the staff members was to stay as close to Eiichiro Oda's manga series as possible.
As far as the original character designs are concerned, each design has its own quirks. Luffy's design looked brighter and much more composed than the original one, which could be a gamble from the staff members as one of them wondered whether they would be able to catch the image of Luffy with a more proper design.
The same could be said about the One Piece remake character designs for the wings of Monkey D Luffy. Where Roronoa Zoro's designs were brighter than the original one, Sanji's looked cleaner. The cleaner design of Sanji made his curly eyebrows more vibrant and as these are a part of his character, this could be a plus for him.
Lastly, the designs of Nami and Usopp could be the ones with the most 'changes.' Usopp's design was with a much lighter shade than the original one which could be due to the color choice of Wit Studio. Moreover, Nami's character design looked more feminine as her facial features were smoother than the original, which could be a treat for the fans who loved her pre-time skip design.
Final thoughts
To get a cleaner look at the character designs, the fandom can compare the character designs of the first three seasons (Wit Studio) of Attack on Titan to the ones that aired after the final season (MAPPA).
Where MAPPA's character designs looked much more mature, Wit Studio's looked brighter and younger. The same could be the aim of the studio with The One Piece remake series.
