Released on November 4, 2024, Arifureta season 3 episode 4, continued the Haulia tribe's rebellion against the Hoelscher Empire. Led by Shea's father, they launched a counter-attack in response to the Empire's oppression. Hajime also allowed Shea to join in the fight.

Finally, to the relief of some fans, CGI animation also debuts in the third sequel in this episode. It was used to animate the action of Shea's hammer which was pretty unexpected because CGI is normally a last resort to animate monsters (if they can't be animated in a 2D animation). Although the CGI was mediocre at best, it didn't change anything because of the intriguing plotline.

Arifureta season 3 episode 4, titled The Empire vs. The Strongest Rabbits, began with Princess Liliana's marriage party, which Hajime and his group attended. As the party started, Hajime invited Yue to dance while the other girls argued over who would go next by playing rock-paper-scissors.

After Hajime and Yue’s dance, Princess Liliana asked Hajime to dance, and Yue agreed to avoid embarrassing her. During the dance, Liliana thanked Hajime for protecting her from the Empire’s prince. Feeling hopeless before, she found comfort in Hajime's words that change was coming and encouraged her to express her desires more openly. Suddenly, the lights went out, and the Haulia tribe launched their attack on the Hoelscher Empire.

Hajime also gave Shea the leeway to help her tribe as she left the protagonist's side. Now, Hajime and his group were just to witness the act of the Haulia tribe. Outside the battlefield, the Haulia tribe wreaked havoc by beheading any Imperial soldier they found and made their way to the party where Hajime and his group were staying.

On the other hand, Arifureta season 3 episode 4 saw Shea fight against some soldiers who were trying to make their way to the party. She used her new hammer, made by Hajime, and stopped anyone who arrived in her way. Returning to the party, Arifureta season 3 episode 4 saw the Haulia tribe's leader, Shea's father, pull Gahard to the ground.

Shea's father then asked for him to make 4 vows (release the trapped beastmen, no interference in the Forest of Trees' matters, prohibit slavery of beastmen, and write all these vows as laws for the Hoelscher Empire) if he didn't want his Empire to be destroyed before his eyes. As expected, Gahard didn't give in to the demands and wanted Shea's father to continue the massacre.

Shea's father then ordered his allies to continue and they beheaded Gahard's son before his eyes. As Gahard was still unfazed, Arifureta season 3 episode 4 saw the Haulia tribe knocking down facilities in the Empire, which made Gahard finally give in to their demands. Arifureta season 3 episode 4 ended with Hajime appreciating the Haulia tribe for their hard work.

Arifureta season 3 episode 4 review: The return of a mediocre CGI but the plotline saves the anime

Arifureta season 3 episode 4 saw a lot of things change for the Haulia tribe, but another key thing that changed for the anime was the introduction of CGI animation for the first time in the third sequel. The animation was present in Shea's hammer when she was fighting against the Imperial soldiers outside the party.

Firstly, the introduction of CGI at this point didn't make any sense because it is normally used to animate large objects when a studio doesn't have the budget for 2D animation. As expected, the animation was amateurish considering how it was noticeable at first glance. Moreover, the scene where it appeared was also present in the sequel's trailer and was different in the anime.

While some fans feared this could signal the series' decline, the plotline was engaging enough to overshadow the CGI animation issues. In Arifureta season 3, episode 4, the Haulia tribe's fight against the Hoelscher Empire took center stage. Although Shea's battle scene was brief, most fans were focused on the story, which helped maintain the anime's appeal for the time being.

Final thoughts

Arifureta season 3 episode 5 is titled The Hero Returns. With Arifureta season 3 episode 4 being decent other than the brief CGI animation that was hardly noticeable, it was hinted that the third sequel might only be saved if the the staff members opted not to use CGI animation. However, as monsters are set to appear in the sequel eventually, things remain uncertain about Arifureta season 3.
