Asta's Anti-Magic may function outside of Black Clover's universe, and it makes perfect sense why

The Black Clover protagonist, Asta, is a peculiar case when it comes to shonen main characters, his sole power is to negate other people's Magic, which is effectively known as Anti-Magic. However, while it has been shown time and time again that Asta can neutralize the magic of most characters, a recent thread on X explains the possibility of him applying it outside of his own universe.

It is always difficult to extrapolate a character's power and abilities to another universe and the case of the Black Clover protagonist is no different. In that regard, there is an element that does help in understanding this, and that is how Anti-Magic works, which can be connected to each individual's life force and the way they can execute their powers.

Explaining how Anti-Magic works in Black Clover and how Asta could use it in other universes

The first argument is that Asta's Anti-Magic can drain a person's life force, as evidenced when he fought Ladros in the manga. Moreover, Asta's mother, Richita, couldn't be around other humans because his Magic would drain other people's life force, which means that there is a connection between these two characters in that regard.

This shows that mana, the energy for the series' power system, is connected to life itself and has even been presented as being alive as well. Therefore, following the idea that the execution of Anti-Magic can drain both mana and life force, Asta could use this ability against people from other universes since they all have a source of energy and life.

Following this assumption, it could be argued that Asta's ability, which was improved by his Ki training, can either directly affect the quality of life (by decaying living things), directly impact the soul, or negate spiritual energy which, on paper, could destroy the life of an entity. That would justify this attack working in other universes since it establishes a core target to reach.

The nature of Asta's fighting style

A major aspect of Asta's character in Black Clover is that he doesn't have any real Magic and has to make do with his physical strength and his Anti-Magic. While he eventually gains another set of skills from Liebe, the majority of his journey in the story is centered around his dedication and coming up with ways to compete with enemies and rivals who are naturally more gifted than him.

This is shown from the moment he meets Sukehiro Yami and the latter begins to teach him about Ki and also a bit more about swordsmanship. That proves to be a major catalyst for Asta's development as a warrior in the series and also continues to show that he is someone who stands out because of his discipline and dedication.

Final thoughts

It is difficult to analyze whether Asta's Anti-Magic can work outside of Black Clover, but the logic behind this ability could, on paper, be executed in other universes. Especially when considering that is connected to an element known as life force, which exists in multiple universes and could be a way for Anti-Magic to happen.
