My Hero Academia fans recently had a poll worldwide to pick their favorite characters, and Katsuki Bakugo took the number one spot. Bakugo has been an extremely popular character during the vast majority of the series and has had a strong and loyal fanbase, as shown by the results of this recent poll.

While there is a lot of evidence to validate Katsuki Bakugo's popularity throughout the years, there is no denying that the My Hero Academia fandom has a section of people who are not too keen on his character.

That is mainly due to some writing choices author Kohei Horikoshi made for his development, with some of them working and others simply not conveying what he wanted to achieve with Deku's friend and rival.

Katsuki Bakugo ranked No. 1 in a worldwide popularity poll among My Hero Academia fans

Katsuki Bakugo topped this poll, which didn't really surprise a lot of people who have been following this story throughout the years. The deuteragonist has been a prominent presence since the early days of the story and was capable of beating the likes of Izuku "Deku" Midoriya and Shoto Todoroki, who ended up in second and third place, respectively, in the poll.

There have been several reasons for this character's popularity throughout the years, with fans mentioning his design, abilities, and how he goes about things. Bakugo is a character who is very straightforward, prideful, and as explosive as his Quirk, which has endeared him to many people in the fandom.

Furthermore, author Kohei Horikoshi went to great lengths to develop Katsuki, going from a selfish and entitled teenager to a hero who cares more about others, especially Deku. While there are arguments that Horikoshi should have developed some points of this character arc better, the results of Bakugo's popularity throughout the years have often been favorable.

Reactions online

However, this doesn't mean that people were entirely happy with this result as some My Hero Academia fans claimed that there was a lot of botting involved to make Bakugo the winner. This has become an issue on X as fans pointed out this detail, especially when compared to the results that Deku and Todoroki got.

Several fans claimed that fans bought bots to get more votes, which hasn't happened before in popularity polls. Furthermore, this situation has led to some criticism because the manga has recently ended, and the popularity poll feels a bit soiled, to a degree, when it should have been a celebration of one of the most successful manga series of the last decade or so.

"Bro would HATEEE winning from bots just vote truthfully yall," someone said.
"You do realize it was the bakugo fans who were botting. Right?" another person said.
"You mean the popularity that drove his fans to buy bot votes and admit botting the polls," someone else said.

The My Hero Academia fandom is known for a lot of in-fighting, so this situation is not surprising at all. Be that as it may, there is no denying that Bakugo does have a strong sense of popularity within said fandom.
