My Hero Academia season 7 episode 13 was released on August 17, 2024, and adapted the Deku vs Shigaraki fight, with Deku using his Gear Shift quirk for the first time onscreen. Due to the manga, a huge part of the fandom already knew how the scene played out but Studio Bones' recent focus on the series' animation quality had piqued the interest of many.
While season 7 had recently gained a lot of praise from the fans due to its adaptation of Bakugo's "death" and the emotional weight that the studio managed to add into the entire sequence, the animation of episode 13 managed to surpass that and has exceeded the fans' expectation to an astronomical degree.

My Hero Academia: Deku vs Shigaraki fight exceeds fan expectations
The Deku vs. Shigaraki fight has been one of the most anticipated moments in the entire series. The earlier seasons of the anime left the fandom with doubts due to the rather inconsistent quality of the animation. These doubts were addressed with the release of season 7, which featured some of the most consistent animations seen in the series.
Recently, episode 13 of the anime was released, which adapted Deku's direct confrontation with Shigaraki and marked the first time he used his Gear Shift quirk. The animation of the main action sequence between Shigaraki and Deku exceeded all fan expectations due to its incredible quality.
It is now being compared to the AFO vs. All Might fight, which is arguably one of the best moments in the series from both a visual and storytelling perspective.
Fan reactions to the new episode
Studio Bones' previous seasons somewhat reduced the fan perception of their animation quality. However, their recent adaptation of the Deku vs. Shigaraki fight, particularly the sheer quality, sound design, and overall attention to detail in episode 13, has been recognized by fans. They've noticed just how much effort Studio Bones put into this fight.
"This episode as a whole was just pure RAWNESS, and I respect the hell outta that! ✊ Deku fans are FEASTING!! 🔥🔥🔥," another fan said.
"Bones definitely stepped up their animation this episode. I was amazed how insanely good this fight was. Need the rest of the anime to have this level of dedication," one fan said.
Some fans have even claimed that this might be the series' greatest episode of all time, while others have expressed their gratitude towards Kohei Hirota, one of the key animators for season 7 episode 13.
"EVERYBODY SAY THANK YOU HIROTA-SAN FOR THE AMAZING EPISODEEEEEE," another fan said.
"They did Deku’s rage SO WELL, the impact frames are perfect and you can really hear the grittiness in his voice!" one fan wrote.
My Hero Academia season 7 has consistently met expectations throughout its run. The season is currently listed for a total of 21 episodes, with episode 14 set to release on August 24, 2024.
