Black Clover and Dragon Ball are extremely popular series in Mexico. Important themes like grit and determination seemed to have captured the nation’s interest, which is why these shows are celebrated in the aforementioned country. However, its importance goes beyond the screen as the Mexican Government has used Asta in their campaign to boos job opportunities among the youth.
The government has a youth well-being program called Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro, which is aimed at the youth. The goal is to drive job opportunities which in turn will help the country’s economy as well as the individual’s family. Given that Black Clover was the choice of anime for this campaign, it seems like this series managed to get one over Dragon Ball, despite the latter series’ popularity.

Asta from Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover is an inspiring role model. Born without magic in a world where it is essential, he persevered through training to achieve his goals. He faced challenges head-on, making him an ideal representative for a campaign aimed at helping youth find job opportunities. Young people can relate to Asta's ideals and determination.
One might assume that the likes of Goku or other popular characters from Akira Toriyama's magnum opus would have been chosen for this campaign. Mexico’s love for Dragon Ball is something that the entire anime and manga community knows about. This time, however, Yuki Tabata’s animanga series seems to have gotten the upper hand, becoming the government’s choice of anime to promote their well-being campaign. The video clip of Asta in this campaign was shared on TikTok.
The campaign also utilized one of Asta’s popular quotes “My magic is never giving up!”. This is quite interesting and the entire community had plenty to say on social media platforms like X and on forums like Reddit. Here’s how the community reacted to the campaign:
How the anime and manga community reacted to the campaign
