Bleach TYBW episode 28: Ichigo Kurosaki fights Yhwach at the Royal Palace
Bleach TYBW episode 28 begins with a flashback, where Yhwach, as a young boy, witnesses his father, the Soul King, creating three realms and eventually sacrificing himself as those worlds' lynchpin. Soon after that, Yhwach is transformed into a baby, with the voices of the forsaken reverberating in the background.
While on his way to the Soul King's Palace, Ichigo Kurosaki confronts those visions. Meanwhile, Yhwach stabbing the Soul King in the palace sends tremors throughout the Seireitei, Hueco Mundo, and the Human World, i.e., in all three realms. Ichigo then arrives at the main entrance to the palace on time and plans to stop Yhwach.
After the opening credits, Bleach TYBW episode 28 showcases Ichigo Kurosaki's second battle against Yhwach in stunning animation. The substitute Soul Reaper uses his dual blades to charge at the Quincy King, who uses his immense Spiritual Pressure to counter the attack.
The battle follows outside the palace's entrance, where Ichigo lands a Getsugatensho on Yhwach. The Quincy King easily counters it with his blade but gets pinned to the ground shortly after. He uses Quincy Blutvene to stop Ichigo's blade from penetrating his flesh.
The Quincy King then replies to the substitute Soul Reaper's efforts with a Sankt Bogen. Although the attack is destructive, Ichigo counters it with a Getsugatensho. Yhwach commends Ichigo's creative choice and confronts him with his full Quincy powers.
The Quincy King then demonstrates Qualkreis to send a barrage of reishi-imbued arrows in Ichigo's direction. However, Ichigo easily slashes the arrows away. Bleach TYBW episode 28 then showcases a stunning scene as Ichigo unleashes Getsuga Jujisho against Yhwach's Sankt Zwinger.
Yhwach acknowledges Ichigo's powers, as he feels his training at the Royal Palace has made him stronger. The Quincy King also thinks Ichigo must have entered the Irazusando under Zero Squad's guidance.
Hearing about the Irazusando and its secrets from Yhwach's mouth shocks Ichigo. In any case, the Quincy King feels it's not enough to stop him because he has yet to use his eyes against Ichigo. Bleach TYBW episode 28 then shows Yhwach gaining new strength as he awakens his Almighty eyes.
Thanks to his eyes, Ichigo's attacks no longer reach the Quincy King, who sees everything in the future. Although the substitute Soul Reaper tries his best, he fails to deliver a blow to Yhwach.
Bleach TYBW episode 28: Yhwach uses Ichigo to commit the biggest crime
The narrative for Bleach TYBW episode 28 switches to the Seireitei, where Rukia tells Renji that they must go to the Department of R&D and enquire about the reason behind the tremors from Kisuke Urahara. Likewise, Soifon, Omaeda, Momo, Shinji, and others react in their own ways to the tremors.
On the other hand, Jushiro Ukitake is seen tending to Zaraki Kenpachi's wounds to ensure the 11th Division Captain doesn't die. Meanwhile, at the lab, Nanao wonders why the Quincies went to the Royal Palace without wiping out the Soul Reapers.
The narrative for Bleach TYBW episode 28 then shifts the focus to Yhwach, who laments that Adyneus, aka the Soul King, with the power to overturn the world, foresaw Quincy's tragedy in the future and yet chose to abandon them. That's why Yhwach wishes to kill his father (Soul King) and create a new world.
Meanwhile, Ichigo Kurosaki stands his ground again to stop Yhwach and protect the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the World of the Living. However, Yhwach tells Ichigo that the Quincy Blood within him (Ichigo) will never forgive the Soul King.
Elsewhere, Ichibe Hyosube ominously predicts that the humans will never defeat Yhwach. Yet he feels it's only fair because that's what peace is all about. The narrative for Bleach TYBW episode 28 then switches to the Seireitei, where Renji, Rukia, Shinji, and others enter Kisuke Urahara's lab. Kisuke feels the tremors are connected to the Soul King's safety.
After that, Bleach TYBW episode 28 shifts to the Soul King's palace again, showing Ichigo Kurosaki's confrontation against Yhwach. While the substitute Soul Reaper holds Yhwach with his blade, Yoruichi uses Tenshiheisho Hissakikumoi to restrict the Quincy King. However, Yhwach's reishi burns the threads and the veil that covers the Soul King's chamber.
Ichigo and his friends are shocked to see the Soul King's crystalized figure skewered by Yhwach's blade. Yoruichi observes the revered being is still alive. Just then, Bleach TYBW episode 28 shows Ichigo charging past Yhwach to pull out the blade from the Soul King.
However, as soon as Ichigo pulls out the blade, his Quincy Blood takes control of his limbs and forces him to sever the Soul King in half. Yhwach commends the boy, who appears crestfallen.
The Quincy King reveals that it was a part of his plan to use Ichigo to kill the Soul King since it can only be done by a being possessing the powers of a Soul Reaper, Hollow, Human, Fullbringer, and Quincy. All Yhwach needed was to ensure Ichigo grabbed the blade, which had his Spiritual Pressure.
The Spiritual Pressure reacted to Ichigo's Quincy Blood, which detests the Soul King like any other Quincies. Yhwach further plunges Ichigo into despair, reminding him how his entire existence as a Soul Reaper was for him to end the life of the Soul King.
The three realms face even more tremors as soon as the Soul King's figure gets cut in half. At this rate, Kisuke Urahara feels the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and even the World of the Living will perhaps cease to exist. Bleach TYBW episode 28 ends with Yhwach inviting Ichigo to witness the destruction of the Soul Society.
