Bleach TYBW episode 34: Mayuri, Zaraki and others confront Pernida Parnkgjas
Picking up the events from the previous installment, Bleach TYBW episode 34 opens with Uryu Ishida ending his battle against Renji with a single shot through his chest. Interestingly, Lille Barro observes the battle from afar, as if making sure Uryu isn't a conspirator.
Meanwhile, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Zaraki, and others head for the castle. However, they come to a halt as Pernida Parnkgjas appears before them. Kenpachi Zaraki, who has never seen Pernida before, wonders about its identity. He charges at the enemy without overthinking.
Suddenly, Mayuri detects danger and tells Zaraki Kenpachi to stop. The 11th Division Captain senses Pernida's powers and backs off. He loses his right arm, which gets twisted. Having said that, Zaraki lands a blow to split open Pernida's head. Just then in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Pernida's head moves uncharacteristically. Even Mayuri doesn't know what it's all about.
Meanwhile, Ikkaku and Yumichika are glad they didn't charge along with their Captain, or else they would have been chewed. Suddenly, Zaraki observes his fractured arm twisting on its own. He quickly cuts off the arm, which twists itself until it turns into a puddle of blood.
Although Yumichika and Ikkaku are bewildered to see such a scene, Mayuri remains calm. He feels Zaraki made the right call to rip off his arm without delay. Otherwise, his whole body would have turned into a meatball. Zaraki doesn't know whether Mayuri is joking or asking for a fight.
Nevertheless, he wonders about his opponent's powers. Mayuri feels they should just stay away from it until they have enough intel. However, Zaraki only believes in cutting down his enemies, so he charges at it once again. This time, Pernida's ability gets Zarkai, who falls to his knees.
Just then in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Mayuri Kurotsuchi quickly stabs Zaraki with his Zanpakuto, Ashisogi Jizo. As soon as he does that, Zaraki becomes almost paralyzed. Mayuri then pokes his Zanpakuto's eyes and increases the intensity to level four. Nemu tells everyone to cover their ears, as hearing Ashisogijizo's cry for four seconds will render them paralyzed.
After paralyzing Zaraki Kenpachi in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Mayuri discovers the Soul Reaper's body isn't twisting like his hand did a while ago. He finally realizes Pernida's ability lies in its nerves. It can slip its nerves into the enemy's body and control their every move.
Although he doesn't know how Pernida can achieve such a feat, Mayuri is glad that he discovered the enemy's main move. Just then in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Pernida spreads its nerves toward Mayuri, who throws acid at them, causing immense pain to the Sternritter.
Pernida's powers pique Mayuri's interest as he wants to turn it into one of his lab research subjects. He also indirectly calls Zaraki's move a noble sacrifice, which agitates Ikkaku and Yumichika. Mayuri's taunting words anger Pernida, who finally shows his true form.
Bleach TYBW episode 34: Mayuri Kurotsuchi demonstrates his research and new Bankai against Pernida
Bleach TYBW episode 34 shows Pernida turning into a gigantic hand, with two pupils on the palm acting as its eyes. The Sternritter's real avatar surprises Mayuri, who calls it the Soul King's Left Arm. The 12th Division Captain explains the figure has almost identical Spiritual Pressure to what he collected from Jushiro Ukitake, who unleashed the Soul King's Right Arm before.
While Mayuri talks to himself, describing Pernida's appearance, the Sternritter spreads its nerves from the tip of its fingers. Yumichika and Ikkaku quickly evade the attack. On the other hand, Mayuri uses a strange umbrella to negate the nerves. He continues his monologue and wonders why the Soul King's Left Arm is serving Yhwach.
However, every question falls trivial to the joy Mayuri feels for having an opponent who piques his curiosity. Ikkaku shouts from behind, urging Mayuri to run away. He wonders why the 12th Division Captain appears so happy. Mayuri Kurotsuchi says he can't be but happy for witnessing an opponent who exceeds his every expectation.
Just then in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Pernida reveals its name to Mayuri in broken words, as if it is learning to speak. Mayuri chides with the Sternritter, which infuriates him further. He realizes Mayuri is indeed an enemy he must crush. Suddenly, Pernida runs its nerves on the ground and takes control of them.
Mayuri is intrigued by Pernida's ability to control even inorganic matter. Bleach TYBW episode 34 then shows a fascinating battle, as Pernida tries to catch Mayuri, who evades from the nerve-controlled ground shaped like a hand. Pernida's plan almost works as Mayuri begins to fall to the ground, with nerves set as traps.
However, the 12th Division Captain uses Hirenkyaku, an aerial hoho used by the Quincy, to float over the ground. Elsewhere in Bleach TYBW episode 34, Liltotto tells Bazz B to go and settle his personal score with Haschwalth and leave Yhwach to her and Giselle. Bazz B says with assurance that he will kill them both.
The narrative for Bleach TYBW episode 34 switches back to the Mayuri vs. Pernida battle, where the 12th Division Captain throws one of his test subjects at Pernida. The subject turns into a ring and blasts one of Pernida's fingers. However, the severed finger gains sentience and the original Pernida's nerve powers.
The finger uses its nerves on Mayuri's right arm and begins to twist it. The 12th Division Captain then performs a quick surgery to fix his arm. Pernida then cuts off another finger on its own and it forms into a new hand. Suddenly, Mayuri remembers reading a book, where he learned that the Soul King's Right Arm controls Stillness, while the Left Arm controls advancement.
Mayuri Kurotsuchi witnesses Pernida's actual power firsthand, as he faces three gigantic arms. That's when he decides to turn the tide of the battle in his favor. Bleach TYBW episode 34 shows Mayuri Kurotsuchi using his Bankai, albeit a modified one.
Mayuri's new Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Matai Fukuin Shotai, summons an enormous pink-skinned baby, with a vertical incision in the center of its belly. Strangely, it gives birth to a new Ashisogi Jizo, with nerves visible on its body. Mayuri explains his modified Bankai can create new Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo based on the information he sends during the battle.
The modified Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo renders Pernida's ability useless since it has nerves divided into 70,000 layers. Mayuri explains that each layer will peel off once they are taken control of. Bleach TYBW episode 34 ends with Mayuri Kurotsuchi laughing in delight, as his Bankai devours Pernida.
Conclusion
Bleach TYBW episode 34 was all about Mayuri vs. Pernida, as the 12th Division Captain demonstrated his unique abilities to counter the Sternritter's nerves. The episode also revealed Pernida's actual identity as the Soul King's Left Arm. Pierrot Films has done a great job of capturing the essence of the manga to produce the battle in anime format.
