Every morning, Taiki Inomata watches his senior, Chinatsu Kano, practice basketball diligently. One day, she accidentally hits him with a basketball and apologizes by giving him a candy bar. Admiring her dedication, Taiki develops feelings for her.

Although Chinatsu is popular and he is relatively unknown, Taiki is determined to get closer to her. His friend Kyo jokes that it’s impossible, while their friend Hina offers generic advice about what girls like.

The following day, Taiki notices Chinatsu outside the gym, and when he sees her sniffle, he offers her something from his bag. She teases him but appreciates the gesture. Motivated by her knowing his name, Taiki throws himself into badminton practice, inspired to improve.

After a tiring session, Taiki and Chinatsu bond over their mothers' basketball pasts. Taiki recalls seeing her cry after missing nationals, something she had forgotten. Later, at home, Taiki's mom reveals that Chinatsu’s family is moving overseas. Shocked, Taiki rushes to school to confront her, only to find out she’s staying with a family friend. The next morning, Taiki is stunned to discover that Chinatsu has moved in with his family, setting the stage for more time together.
