Blue Lock episode 9, titled I'll Be Rooting For You, commenced where the previous episode left off. Taiki ran away after hearing that Chinatsu made it into the Inter High Tournament. Although he was proud of her achievement, he felt guilty because he had failed on his end.

Fast forward to the next day, Taiki faced the burden of the upcoming tests because he was neglecting his studies. Even though Kyou urged him to keep his study and extracurricular life balanced, the male protagonist still complained and gave up on explaining this to his friend.

Moreover, Hina was also struggling with the same subject as Taiki, so these two were thinking of skipping their practice sessions. Walking by the practice hall, they saw Chinatsu and the basketball team practice enthusiastically. Witnessing their practice, Taiki entered his badminton practice to divert his mind.

During their practice, Haryuu was congratulated for qualifying for Inter-High, and everyone wrote down their future goals. Taiki wrote that he wanted to improve his smashes and become a better player. Days passed, and eventually, the tests were over. Blue Box episode 9 saw the badminton team go out for food as Taiki left for home because he felt dizzy due to lack of sleep.

After returning home, Blue Box episode 9 showed Taiki lying on his bed. As he was home alone, he began overthinking over his loss. He also started reminiscing about past memories with Chinatsu when she suddenly appeared before him. She was there to check his fever, which was pretty high.

Upon witnessing Chinatsu so close to him in Blue Box episode 9, Taiki jumped back as he didn't want Chinatsu to catch his fever. Chinatsu got angry over this remark and told him to keep quiet and rest. Taiki was then tucked into bed as Chinatsu cooked up something light for him to eat. While she was preparing, Taiki was looking around his room nervously.

Chinatsu returned to Taiki's room with a bowl of Udon and medicine. Thinking of indulging in Chinatsu's cooking, Taiki got excited and took the first bite wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, due to the fever, he couldn't taste anything but was satisfied with the warmth of the dish. In episode 9 of Blue Box, Chinatsu asked Taiki about the future goal he had just written at school.

She was confused about why he didn't aim to reach the Inter High. Taiki explained that during the Prefectural Tournament, he was reminded of how weak his smashes were and that he shouldn't strive for something as grand as to reach the Inter High. Chinatsu started giggling over this, but she apologized later.

She complied with Taiki's current situation and said she had always been there. However, she was adamant that no one should give up on their goals so soon after one loss. Moreover, the person who followed this philosophy was someone Chinatsu would always root for. This remark reminded Taiki of his love for Chinatsu, someone who is always kind to everyone.

After taking his medicine in Blue Box episode 9, Taiki got up and saw Chinatsu out of his room. However, he lost his balance and fell. Chinatsu tried saving him, but she also fell. When they landed, Chinatsu was on top of Taiki. Taiki immediately apologized and said he was about to get Chinatsu off of him. However, she put her hand on Taiki, where the episode ended.
