Blue Exorcist season 4 episode 4 portrays Shura's harsh childhood in the mountains of Aomori under Hachiroto's care. Following the rules of the contract put up by Tatsuko, Shura's ancestor, she undergoes intense training with the Dragon God each day. She was even referred to as 'Tatsuko' by Hachiroto who viewed her as a vessel to bring forth the next generation.

The episode showed that young Shura would often make mischief in the villages by testing out her sword skills on innocent poultry. The villagers who caught sight of her deemed her a witch, and named her 'Baba Yaga'. This reputation turns out to be the foundation of her connection to Shiro.

Shiro stumbles upon young Shura while investigating the 'Baba Yaga'. Upon witnessing his prowess, young Shura gets infatuated with Shiro and declares to carry his child when she gets older. Seeing how this aligns with Hachiroto's objectives, he agrees to her departure along with Shiro.

Following Shura's disappearance in the previous episode, she stands before Hachiroto in the Towada Shrine. The encounter reveals his ability to control other peoples' bodies with just a gaze. However, explicit use of this power leads to exhaustion and other side effects that harm the user's body.

The interaction is interrupted by Rin and Yukio as the duo charges at Hachiro to protect Shura. However, they are quickly taken down by the Dragon God's immense powers and immortality. Hachiroto decides to use Yukio's body to impregnate Shura.

Luckily, Rin's satanic flames were able to harm Hachiroto and distract his gaze from Shura and Yukio. What followed was an intense exchange of blows between Rin and Hachiroto, where Shura attempts to end her own life to put an end to this conflict.

Meanwhile, Yukio cunningly proposes to form a contract with the Dragon God that would spare Shura's life and fulfill his objective. Yukio shoots down Rin who objects to the proposal, thereby convincing Hachiroto. However, as he removes Shura's seal and attempts to place it on Yukio, Rin attacks from behind, successfully impaling Hachiroto.

This results in Hachiroto's transformation into his true Hydra form. Shima arrives at the scene to provide backup for the duo, but the Dragon God proves to be a tough challenge. Hachiroto takes Shura hostage while hypnotizing Rin to stop him from using his powers.

Blue Exorcist season 4 episode 4 ends with Shura's absurd offer to go to the bottom of Lake Towada with Hachiroto and stay by his side until he goes to sleep forever. However, this undoubtedly means an end to her own life. The scene ends as Hachiroto dives into the lake with Shura in his grasp.
