With the release of Blue Lock chapter 271, the manga series finally revealed why Rin Itoshi's ego was destructive in nature. This was explained through a flashback that explained how Rin was inspired by a boss monster from a show. Similar to the monster, Rin wished to fight and defeat someone stronger than himself.

The previous chapter saw Rin Itoshi initiating his counterattack. This move helped Isagi deduce Rin to be a restrictive self-type player. Following that, Isagi decided to copy Sae and suppress Rin's flow state to the best of his abilities. In the meantime, Rin's ego unraveled his woven memories.

Blue Lock chapter 271 saw Rin and Sae return home after having ice cream. Just then, their mother questioned Rin about the broken toys. However, Sae came to his aid and took the blame.

The manga chapter then gave fans a glimpse of a show that saw a hero fight a boss monster. This show was very popular amongst children, especially in Rin's kindergarten. The other children loved the hero and reenacted his moves in class. After seeing others play, Rin caused some trouble by destroying a Jenga tower.

Soon after, the manga saw Rin Itoshi jumping off a climber at the playground, hoping to catch a pigeon. Not only did the pigeons fly away in time but Rin also injured himself. Right after, the manga chapter showed Rin watching a wildlife show that saw a leopard hunting a deer. Rin found it very amusing.

Moments later, Blue Lock chapter 271 saw Rin's mother speak to her husband about Rin's recent troublemaking incidents. In addition, she was also worried about Sae who had seemingly started behaving strangely because of Rin. However, Rin's father was certain that his son would calm down as he grew older. Rin overheard this conversation and was left feeling bad, evident from the fact that he refused an ice cream offer from his brother.

Later, Rin asked his brother Sae Itoshi if he was weird and if his presence bothered everyone around him. In response, Sae told Rin that he too was often labeled weird by others. With that in place, Sae asked Rin if he was unhappy being similar to his brother. This cheered up Rin as he had no qualms about being similar to Sae.

The manga then saw Rin watching the popular show that was mentioned before. Sae was surprised that Rin liked the show as he found the hero's persona to be quite childish. However, Rin did not like the hero but the boss monster. He explained that the boss monster knew that he was weaker than the hero, yet he would try to fight the hero hoping to defeat him by placing his life on the line.

Rin Itoshi believed that the boss monster was really cool. Just like him, he too, wished to one day fight someone amazing, destroy him, and die like that. These glimpses from the past allowed Rin Itoshi to realize what inspired the destructive nature of his ego. Just then, Michael Kaiser charged at him to steal the ball.
