With the release of Blue Lock chapter 281, the manga saw Ego Jinpachi explain to Anri Teireri what evolution had to do with football. As for Isagi, following a tough time, he tried to get back into the match. Just then, he realized that Michael Kaiser was in the same boat as him.
The previous chapter saw Igarashi stopping Rin Itoshi with his malicia. As for Isagi, he started questioning the meaning of a "genius." Moments later, after Noa shrugged him off, Isagi realized that he was only a prodigy. Following this realization, he could no longer imagine himself becoming the world's best.

Blue Lock chapter 281: Loki challenges Noa for the ball's possession
Blue Lock chapter 281, titled The Formula of Evolution, saw Ego Jinpachi and Anri Teireri discuss the formula of evolution. As per Ego, all humans are born with genes they derive from their parents. However, sometimes the child is born with characteristics that are different from the parents. These differences could see the child effectively be eliminated with no chance of passing their genes on to the next generation.
In contrast, sometimes such mutations can become favorable, leading to the mutation becoming the standard. This cycle repeats, leading to evolution. Anri Teieri compared Ego's explanation to that of a Pokemon evolution. However, she was confused about what it had to do with football.
As per Ego Jinpachi, football also experienced a similar evolution. The one who is viewed as the mutation can be called the genius. His mutation later becomes the global standard, raising the bar for all other players. With that, Anri agreed with Ego's explanation of the formula of evolution. Effectively "geniuses" and "prodigies" were the two sides of the same coin as both of them have a path to becoming the world's best.
Blue Lock chapter 281 then switched back to the match between Bastard Munchen and Paris X Gen as Igarashi Gurimu started Bastard Munchen's attack with a free kick pass to Noel Noa. Just as Noa received the ball, he started forging an attack alongside Michael Kaiser. During this, all Isagi could think about was how he could not physically match up with the geniuses on the field.
Just then, Isagi saw Julian Loki blitzing past him and tackling Noel Noa to steal the ball off of him. This incident left Isagi even more hopeless as he called out to God in his mind that he had been treated unfairly. Surprisingly, at the same time as Isagi, Michael Kaiser said the same thing out loud.
This development shocked Isagi as he was certain that Kaiser was also a genius. However, evidence suggested that Kaiser was a prodigy just like him and was in the same boat as himself.
