With the release of Blue Lock chapter 285, the anime finally saw the long-awaited team-up between Yoichi Isagi and Michael Kaiser come to fruition. While the two players wanted to defeat the other, their common goal had them form a cold contract to defeat Rin Itoshi.
The previous chapter saw Yoichi Isagi reveal that he was willing to sell his soul for the sake of victory. Moments later, he went off at Julian Loki, explaining to him how he had lost against him and Kaiser. Even when Noel Noa tried to stop him, Isagi challenged him for the World Cup. Right after, Isagi proposed a team-up with Michael Kaiser.

Blue Lock chapter 285: Kaiser agrees to team up with Isagi
Blue Lock chapter 285, titled Contract, picked up from where the previous episode ended as Michael Kaiser was left surprised by Isagi's proposal for a team-up. Evidently, Isagi wanted to kill him in the past, so a team-up seemed impossible. However, as revealed by Isagi, he no longer cared about his personal feelings and wanted to do everything possible to defeat the geniuses.
Rin Itoshi had become unstoppable, so there was no way to predict what move he would pull next. Moreover, the next goal was set to decide the match's winner; thus, there was no going back if they were to concede a goal. Considering that Isagi and Kaiser managed to stop Rin by combining their logic, there was a possibility that they could defeat the geniuses similarly in offense as well.
With that, the two talented learners would be able to prove that they were capable of defeating geniuses. While they had their personal feelings as well, at the time, Isagi was only concerned about winning and wished to immerse into the feeling of using himself as a tool to attain victory.
Michael Kaiser was shocked by Isagi's mentality but deduced that this must be Isagi's truest ego. With that in mind, the German striker showed an interest in the team-up. However, he still had a big doubt - who would score the final goal? Isagi wanted to leave it up to luck. There would be no fixed scorer. Both strikers would use their logic to come up with an ideal goalscoring opportunity.
While both players wanted to defeat the other, their similar goals saw them form a partnership to defeat Rin Itoshi and destroy Noel Noa.
Blue Lock chapter 285 then saw Kunigami Rensuke and Gabon get subbed in for Noel Noa and Julian Loki. Just as the match was set to resume, Loki asked Noa to educate Isagi on not to act so rudely with others. However, Noa believed that Isagi had said nothing wrong. While the Master Strikers believed that the Neo Egoist League was a competition to make money, Ego Jinpachi had succeeded at using them to accelerate the growth of the Blue Lock players' egos.
The manga then switched to Ego Jinpachi as he was surprised to learn that the Master Strikers had only realized this now. He wanted a striker with the world's greatest ego. It was a gamble whether the players would be able to handle it. But fortunately, his gamble worked as the players survived the intense environment, gaining the mindset and skills to endure.
As for the match, just as Nanase Nijiro passed the ball to Rin Itoshi with a throw-in, Yoichi Isagi and Michael Kaiser faced off against him.
