Blue Lock chapter 289 will be released on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 12 AM JST. The manga will take a one-week break, hence it will be absent from the upcoming Weekly Shonen Magazine issue. Blue Lock manga will be available to read on Kodansha's manga reader service K Manga.

The previous chapter saw Yukimiya's goal attempt to create an opening for Isagi. However, just as Isagi tried using Ness to set him up for a direct shot, the German midfielder switched his focus on Kaiser, causing him to lose the ball's possession. Upon witnessing this, Kaiser asked Ness to stop playing football.

Blue Lock chapter 288 part 2, titled Death Game (Part 2), saw Yukimiya Kenyu continue his attack and try to score from a tight angle. While he got past other players, Charles Chevalier blocked the shot.

While Isagi recovered the free ball, he was certain he was too far from the goal. Hence, he passed the ball to Alexis Ness, hoping for a pass back from the midfielder. Unfortunately, Ness did not comply with this attack and tried searching for Kaiser. This poor-decision making allowed Tabito Karasu to stop the attack and kick the ball out of play.

Michael Kaiser was disappointed after witnessing Alexis Ness's decision-making and asked him to stop playing football.

Blue Lock chapter 289 will most likely see Bastard Munchen resume their attack with a throw-in. However, with Alexis Ness given the death sentence by Michael Kaiser, it is to be seen how the German midfielder will respond to his former partner's criticism.

Considering that Master Striker Noel Noa also focuses a lot on rationality, there is also the possibility that he could sub out Ness amidst his impending breakdown.
