Rin Itoshi's ego is inspired by the Boss Monsters, which appeared on a show he used to watch when he was a child. Given how Rin is a composed player, fans must have never deduced his ego to be based on children's shows. However, that is the truth as revealed in Blue Lock chapter 271.

Up until now, Rin has entered his Flow State on two occasions. This state effectively increases his abilities several levels above his standard abilities. Moreover, he has a contrasting personality. While his usual style of play revolves around utilizing his teammates and opponents' weapons to his benefit, Flow State sees Rin draw out his opponent's weapons only to shut them down.

Overall, Rin Itoshi's Flow State revolved around destruction, and he too acknowledged the same. However, with chapter 271, the true nature behind Rin's ego is revealed. With his ego unraveling his woven memories, Rin witnessed glimpses of his past.

Through this flashback, Blue Lock manga revealed that Rin's ego wasn't just a destructive impulse but "destruction at the cost of life." This was evident from his desire to defeat things that seemed stronger than him.

In the past, he liked the Boss Monsters, which appeared on the children's show, because the monsters knew they were weaker than the heroes. Despite knowing that, the Boss Monsters fought for their lives. Even if their bodies were riddled with holes or were forced to self-destruct, the Boss Monsters fought to defeat the hero. Hence, Rin found them to be very cool.

Upon being inspired by them, Rin also wished to one day fight someone amazing, destroy them and die in the process. This was the true nature of his ego, something that only emerged outside when he would enter his Flow State.

This also explains why Rin Itoshi was only able to enter his Flow State on two occasions—one during his match against his brother, Sae Itoshi, and another during his match against his rival, Yoichi Isagi. This is because he considered both players to be better than himself and the targets he needed to defeat to be called the world's best. Hopefully, Rin's ego will be explored further in the upcoming manga chapters.
