Blue Lock season 2 episode 4: Reo's evolution in Team A vs. Team C showdown
Blue Lock season 2 episode 4 begins with a reflective moment between Isagi and Nanase Najiro, where he talks about the game-winning goal that he scored during the previous match.
He says his strategy was to slip subtly into Karasu's blind spot and deceive both Rin and Otoya. However, Isagi states that his movements felt instinctive rather than planned. Najiro praises him, but Isagi is unsure if he has ever experienced such a feat before.
When Hiori Yo joins the conversation, he shares that he originally doubted Isagi could score, thinking he would go to Rin or Shidou to finish the play. He stresses that Isagi has to analyze his game to advance further.
To explain better, Hiori says that the game is like falling blocks wherein one finds it increasingly harder to make decisions as the tempo increases. He also suggests that a game like Rin or Shidou can only be mastered with quick strategic thinking, a feature of experienced players.
Hiori adds that from the outside, Isagi's objective appears to be instantaneous, while in reality, his ability to execute it at such speed is because of his honed skills.
Reflecting on the match, Isagi says that since Rin and Shidou were fighting each other, he got the opportunity, and that was because of Hiori and Najiro who supported him. Inwardly, Isagi continues to think that if he can do it consistently, then he can take that trancelike sensation to a whole new level.
The focus of Blue Lock season 2 episode 4 then shifts to the match between Team A and Team C, where the key players are stars Nagi and Mikage Reo. Right from the beginning, Reo is determined to prove himself to believe that he has to outperform Nagi.
Reo's skills are commendable since he manages to trick Rin and Shidou, but the pass he makes to Nagi is intercepted by Ishikari Yukio of Team A.
Blue Lock season 2 episode 4 then follows a series of rapid exchanges between Rin and Yukimiya Kenyu. In the heat of the battle, Yukimiya does remarkably well to outshine Rin and Shidou. Just when he is about to score, Nagi seizes the chance and makes a goal for Team C.
Reo, knowing that Nagi progressed, gets motivated to push himself even further. He comes up with an all-new technique called "Chameleon," which allows him to score a goal, making the score 2-1 for Team C.
Isagi, analyzing the game, notices that Reo adjusted and acknowledged that his survival technique here in Blue Lock is a copying of techniques. Still, he also points out that what Reo can't copy are unique physical attributes like height and speed, showing the limitation in Reo's ability to copy.
Blue Lock season 2 episode 4 closing events: Reo's determination ignites after Team C's defeat
As the final whistle blows in Blue Lock season 2 episode 4, Team C is seen on the scoreboard with a disappointing 5-3 defeat. The aching loss makes Reo realize how dismal his skill level remains at this point, leaving him aching to be as skillful as at least the Top 6.
However, amid all the despair, he knows exactly which way he needs to move forward to become a better player from now on.
In a surprising moment, Nagi approaches Reo, congratulating him on the fantastic goal he scored even though they lost. However, Reo feels inadequate, suggesting that this performance does not come anywhere near the way of soccer that Nagi wants to play.
He requests Nagi to leave him alone, to the point where he says he wants Nagi to look down on him, as he prepares himself to become a player whom Nagi will never in any way help but chase.
As Nagi leaves, Reo's resolve crystallizes. He vows to himself that he will be the player he wants to be at any cost.
