Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 6, titled The Big Stage, premiered on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:30 pm JST. With the anime finally switching its focus to the big match, fans wished that 8bit would maintain good production quality. Unfortunately, that was not the case as the studio continued its antics.
Surprisingly, unlike the previous episodes, the latest episode didn't just look like a colored manga but featured some anime original scenes to build up to the match. Just as it seemed like 8bit was set to a decent job with match, they retracted back to putting in less effort with the constant use of CG animation and lack of movement.
Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 6 review: 8bit build up Blue Lock XI vs. Japan U-20 match with original scenes
Up until now, it looked like 8bit animation studio had put little effort into animating the Blue Lock anime. This is because scenes from the series looked like colored panels from the manga. However, the latest episode was different as nearly half of it featured anime original scenes.
Just as the match between Blue Lock XI and Japan U-20 was inching closer, 8bit gave fans a perspective on what the general public thought about the match. The majority of them had no idea about Blue Lock before the match was announced. In addition, the anime also showcased the hype surrounding Sae Itoshi. There was also a scene where fans saw Isagi's parents overhearing a person badmouthing the Blue Lock players.
Overall, the anime-original scenes did a good job as they accomplished their goal of building up hype for the match. The scripting seemed perfect and displayed how well the staff members knew about the characters and the stakes.
8bit ruins good original scenes run with poor match animation
While the anime original scenes were good, the animation studio retracted back to poor animation just as the big match began. As manga fans would know, the players walking to the pitch was a beautiful scene in the manga. The same scene was ruined by the use of CG animation.
As for the match, it again showcased players being panned across the scene to depict movement. In these scenes, the only thing that looked good was Meguru Bachira's CG skill moves. That speaks volumes about the animation studio's production quality. On top of that, after such poorly animated scenes, 8bit again resorted to adding special effects players to depict intensity. This was seen in the case of Isagi and Aiku.
Final thoughts on Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 6
As fans might remember, just as Blue Lock Season 2 had started showing poor production quality, many fans resorted to believing that 8bit animation studio had majorly focused on the big match, leaving little production value to the other scenes.
Unfortunately, this myth was busted with the latest episode. This means that fans of the anime are in for a tough ride in the coming weeks.
