The Boruto Franchise is filled with some dark moments, be they centered around the overall narrative of the series or related to some characters. One such dark moment was the death of Kagura Katachi, who died a gruesome death before his friends from the Hidden Leaf Village.
However, a similar thing could have happened in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga series but reached a different conclusion. Jura from the Shinju pierced Inojin's chest, just like Kagura, after Inojin tried to protect Himawari. However, unlike Kagura who couldn't be saved, Inojin was saved by Himawari and Sakura, indicating that the sequel series might be less gruesome.

Boruto: Why Inojin's death might have added a dark twist to the Two Blue Vortex series

Boruto Naruto Next Generations featured the story of the filler character Kagura Karatachi, the grandson of Yagura (the jinchuriki of the two tails). Due to this, Kagura was treated differently and sent to live in a secluded part of the village. Due to all this differentiation, Kagura developed a personality, adamant about changing the Hidden Mist Village.
Things changed when Kagura was appointed as an aide to the Sixth Hokage due to his skills as a shinobi and his mastery over the sword. While traveling the other villages with the Mizukage, Kagura also developed the urge to make his village on par with others, especially the Hidden Leaf Village.
The Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure Arc featured Kagura protecting his village while his friends from Hidden Leaf Village assisted him. However, he met his end through a gruesome death at the hands of Funamushi, a member of the Funato clan who attacked the Hidden Mist Village. In his last moments, Kagura wished to see his allies protect his village in the future.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex saw Himawari getting chased by Jura while the modern InoShikaCho protected her. As Jura's pursuit reached an end, he started to attack Himawari directly. However, Inojin decided to risk his life to protect her. During this, Inojin's chest was pierced.
As Himawari had already awakened her Nine-Tails chakra, she gave Inojin enough healing such that he persisted in his injuries until more help arrived. Fortunately, after the fiasco in Hidden Leaf Village ended, Inojin survived his injuries through the help of Sakura's healing.
Although Inojin's survival was indeed good news, it could have robbed the series of its dark tone. The 'dark aspect' of the Boruto series signified through the death of Kagura, a teenager, was missed through Inojin. This affected the series because this 'dark side' complimented the actions of the Otsutsuki clan, but unfortunately, fans couldn't see it happen.
Analysis and Final Thoughts

Naruto Next Generations was carried out by its filler content, more than its canon content, because the source of the series had limited material that could never reach the total episode count of the series.
This could be the reason why such a dark aspect was present in the anime (filler) but not in the manga series because Kagura was a filler character and Inojin is a canon character. This could be accompanied by some other reasons which are yet to be unveiled.
