Boruto fans struggle to defend the series against accusations of copying a major concept from Dragon Ball

The Boruto series looks to have hit a substantial block with accusations from animanga fans. This comes after the realization that a major concept between Kishimoto's series and Dragon Ball is quite similar.

In Boruto, the shinobi are attempting to prevent a repeat of the God Tree disaster. This idea looks to be on par with Dragon Ball's Tree of Might, which was seen in a Dragon Ball film of the same name.

Such similarity has left fans of Kishimoto's work with little defense against the accusations being aimed at their beloved shinobi series.

Boruto seemingly takes a page out of the Dragon Ball book

As it stands, both Naruto and Boruto fans face accusations that their favorite series took a page out of Toriyama's book. Before delving into what is being said, it would be better to understand the claims.

Beginning with Naruto and Boruto, both series seem tied to the central issue of the shinobi face, i.e., the God Tree. As the story goes, once planted, the God Tree slowly kills the land and its people by absorbing Natural Chakra. Then, every thousand years or so, it produces a Chakra Fruit that the Otsutsuki covet, as consuming it gives them powerful Chakra besides youth and longevity.

Now, in Dragon Ball, there was a similar concept called the Tree of Might. Once planted, it would gradually absorb the planet's energy and life force to survive and grow, eventually draining the plant entirely. This process would end with the tree bearing the Fruit of the Tree of Might. While not considered evil, it was generally a planet's death sentence unless the plant could otherwise sustain it.

So, the claims originate from the fact that Dragon Ball first used this concept and was later "copied" in both of Kishimoto's series.

With the claims being boldly against their beloved series, Boruto fans had little response. After all, it couldn't be denied that the concepts are quite similar when compared, and the fact does stand that it was originally used in Toriyama's series before being seen in Naruto and now in the sequel.

"Bro aint no way" - a user commented.

Many fans were in disbelief at the comparison being online. Understandably so, at first glance, one would accept the God Tree to be the Otsutsuki's goal, and in turn, it was the shinobi who had to fight to defend, firstly, their planet from dying out and, secondly, the Otsutsuki from consuming the fruit and gaining power.

"Bar for bar is crazy" - a netizen wrote.

Moreover, fans were surprised at how particularly similar the concepts were. In a nutshell, a massive energy/chakra absorbing tree exists, draining the planet to bear a fruit that grants the one who consumes it unimaginable power and life force.

"As an honest Naruto/Boruto fan I can't defend this..." a fan confessed.

Some fans of Kishimoto's series held their arms in surrender, accepting the fact that the concepts were indeed uncannily similar. They realized that very little could be said in defense and hence chose to hold their silence and accept the claims being made.

"This is the publisher's fault for pushing Kishimoto into creating an excuse for Boruto to even happen last minute. He wanted to just end it with Shippuden." another user opined.

Finally, another section of fans pointed a finger at the publisher. They felt that creator Kishimoto was compelled to create the Next Generation series due to the success of the original Naruto storyline.

They also opined that Kishimoto would've ended the shinobi series with the Knucklehead Ninja's story rather than extend it needlessly into the next generation.
