Since the arrival of Shinju in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the manga has depicted the antagonists as aloof and emotionless beings running amok with no set goals. However, as suggested by the events in the series, this could change soon.
As seen in the manga's previous chapters, the Shinju have shown signs of admiration for the Shinobi. At first, it was only Jura who admired Shikadai Nara's intellect, but soon after, Matsuri joined him. This was depicted through Matsuri's interest in harvesting Shinki's Thorn Soul Bulb.
Does this mean that the Shinju are expected to go through an evolution in Boruto?

Boruto: Shinju's interest in Shinobi suggests an emotional evolution
As seen in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, Jura is quite interested in the Shinobi, even expressing his admiration for Shikadai Nara's calculated thinking and Ino-Shika-Cho's teamwork.
At the start, it seemed like only Jura was capable of such independent thinking and emotions. However, as the manga progressed further, it hinted that all Shinju could be set for similar emotional evolution.
As seen in the manga's recent chapters, Matsuri was interested in harvesting Shinki's Thorn Soul Bulb. While the series never explained why Matsuri was particularly invested in harvesting the Shinju, there is reason to believe that she had come to admire Shinki's resolve.
In the manga's previous chapter, a flashback revealed how Shinki had sacrificed himself to protect his father Gaara. Considering that this action defied the most basic instinct to flee from danger, Matsuri, who witnessed it in person was interested in Shinki and wanted to see what his Shinju could turn up like.
This is a sign that there is potential for emotional growth among the sentient Divine Trees. While they are currently aloof and emotionless, with individual Shinjus being interested in Shinobi, there could soon be a time when the antagonists try replicating Shinobi's determination to protect the ones they are close to.
Given how such an action defies all instincts to keep oneself safe, such an emotional evolution could be a huge turning point in the manga.
This could be exactly what the manga creators might be building up to with the series' latest developments. The manga's previous chapter ended with Konohamaru, Sarada, and Mitsuki rendezvousing with Yodo and Araya in the Land of the Wind. There they happened to spot sentient Divine Trees Matsuri and Ryu.
While it is difficult to deduce whether the Shinobi will fight the Shinju, a possible confrontation could help the two Shinju experience some character development. This is because Matsuri and Ryu are originally based on Moegi and Shinki, who are close to Konohamaru and Yodo & Araya respectively.
Fans should also remember that Konohamaru was Matsuri's target, hence meeting him should spark some emotional evolution within her.
