Boruto has gained a lot of special abilities throughout the years, especially with the recent events of the Two Blue Vortex time-skip. There have been a lot of theories involving the yokai Nue, which could suggest the protagonist's connection to Shibai Otsutsuki. That is because the protagonist is likely the true contractor of Nue and could connect him with Shibai, which links with the theory that he is the latter's future vessel.

Sumire even stated that Boruto was the first to be able to summon Nue, which was shown in the anime and is yet to be displayed in the manga. Given that the protagonist and Shibai have similar horns, there is a chance that this yokai could have been connected with the Otsutsuki, thus explaining this possible connection.

Many people have wondered why Naruto Uzumaki's son can summon a yokai of Nue's caliber, especially considering that he managed to do it in the anime, and the story has not addressed it in the manga. This creature is the result of Project Gozu Tennō by Danzo and his Root organization, designed to be the ultimate weapon harvested from Hashirama Senju's cells.

Sumire mentioned in the novel that this series' protagonist was the first person to ever summon Nue, making the situation a bit rarer. Some have speculated on Reddit that this creature could be connected to Shibai Otsutsuki, especially because they are historical entities.

It has been theorized several times that the protagonist will be the vessel for Shibai because of his unique heritage and the abilities he has mastered throughout the years. In that regard, the capacity to summon Nue could add to this theory and explain his ability to do this jutsu.

The existence of Shibai Otsutsuki is one of the greatest mysteries in Boruto. There are a lot of questions regarding his existence and the role he could play moving forward with the story. Amado explained that Shibai was an Otsutsuki who achieved Karmic Resurrection by eating the Chakra Fruit of the God Tree repeatedly, reaching the status of a deity.

It has been established in the series that Shibai transcended and no longer had a physical body after a while, which shows that he could still be alive. In that regard, that is why many people have assumed that he is going to be the final villain of the story and could even go as far as taking over the protagonist's body, especially considering the mix of genes he has.
