The Boruto fanbase has pointed out an interesting development involving the series' protagonist. Since the manga series takes about a month for a new chapter's release, it gives netizens time to revisit older chapters. Discussions surrounding this series are at an all-time high, and fans seem to have discovered an important detail about the protagonist’s character design.
Various fan theories hinge on the character design. It is common for manga authors to change the character’s apparel or hairstyle to indicate a change that will be revealed sometime in the future. In this case, fans have reason to believe that Boruto’s change in character design indicates a potential link to Momoshiki and Rinnegan.
There is absolutely no doubt that the protagonist hasn’t shown his full potential yet. Furthermore, the dormant Jogan is yet to make its appearance. However, fans have reason to believe that he could, or already has awakened the Rinnegan in the Two Blue Vortex manga chapters.

Fan theory explores the possibility of Boruto awakening the Rinnegan
This theory in particular hinges on certain important points that netizens need to revisit. It states that the glove that the protagonist wore on his left hand no longer exists. He never wore a glove before the time skip; however, he seemed to have worn a new glove on his left hand after the time skip. This was when Sasuke was sealed by the Shinju and the protagonist made his way to Konohagakure. This new addition to his character design raised a few eyebrows.
Another interesting point about the character is that he is now a full-fledged Otsutsuki. This means Momoshiki succeeded in encoding the entirety of DNA, making Boruto a complete vessel. Therefore, the vessel obtains all the powers of the Otsutsuki entity residing in his body. In this case, Momoshiki had a Rinnegan on each of his hands. In theory, the vessel could potentially have the Rinnegan as well.
The new glove on the left hand only increases the suspicion multifold. There is another piece of evidence that could be tied to the Rinnegan theory. Boruto fought Kawaki for a brief period in the Two Blue Vortex manga series. In that fight, we saw Kawaki getting outclassed. However, he activated this Karma Mode. The protagonist’s Karma Mode was also activated due to the Resonance effect.
He fled from the battlefield to potentially stop Momoshiki from taking over his body completely. This means that the complete "Otsutsuki-fication" of the vessel could mean that he awakened his Rinnegan in the series. It is also clear that Masashi Kishimoto is building up to a massive reveal showcasing the protagonist’s true potential. This is why fans believe he has awakened the Rinnegan in the manga.
Conclusion
This is an interesting theory that has raised suspicion among fans and the timing has certainly raised his eyebrows. There are a few compelling pieces of evidence that strengthen this theory. However, the Jogan is yet to be revealed and it will be stronger than the Rinnegan. Therefore, the awakening of the Rinnegan would serve little to no purpose. However, the likelihood of this happening cannot be ruled out completely.
