The Boruto manga community has striked once again, as they have come up with a fan theory that has raised plenty of eyebrows. Given that the manga series follows a monthly release schedule, there is a growing sense of anticipation and restlessness, especially as we near the release of a chapter.
Therefore, netizens have taken to various social media platforms to explain their carefully crafted theories. While some theories rely on evidence, others seem to be relying on plenty of variables.
The particular fan theory that explains the possibility of alternate timelines, and the protagonist potentially bringing back Kaguya Otsutsuki on his side, is quite far-reaching.

Fan theory suggests the possibility of Kaguya Otsutsuki’s return and his siding with Boruto
The fan theory hinges on the similarities the manga shares with Dragon Ball, drawing parallels between the likes of Trunks, Boruto, the Androids, Daemon, Edia, the Otsutsuki Gods, and the Gods of Destruction. Based on these, the likelihood of time travel in the series was introduced, stating that Naruto's son could potentially have a future version of himself existing in an alternate timeline.
The acquisition of the protagonist’s new techniques, like Rasengan Uzuhiko and Flying Raijin, was attributed to the future version of himself. Kashin Koji’s ability to look into the future also ties into this theory, which is why he is working closely with Boruto in the Two Blue Vortex manga series. The focus of the theory then shifts to the prologue, shown in the very first chapter of the manga.
Viewers can see the protagonist saying “Is this the only possible outcome?” This statement is used to further strengthen the possibility of time travel in the series. It will allow the future version of him to travel back in time and interfere with certain events, making things easier for the current timeline’s version of himself.
The theory then states that Kawaki will most likely be the antagonist despite the presence of various timelines. His sacrifice in all the other timelines could have led to the destruction of the planet, which can explain the future Boruto’s intervention in this timeline.
Finally, the future version of the protagonist could potentially revive Kaguya Otsutsuki. The reason for her revival could be to study how Chibaku Tensei was used against her, allowing the young prodigy to recreate this technique. As per this theory, Kaguya’s intervention is quintessential to Kawaki’s downfall, because of Boruto’s naivete.
This is why the protagonist could potentially revive Kaguya Otsutsuki, undoing the very thing that Naruto and Sasuke put their lives on the line to see through.
Final thoughts
While the fan theory has an interesting construction, the likelihood of this happening is quite low. Introducing a massive plot point like time travel out of the blue would undo an entire year’s worth of progression.
The introduction of time travel would make plot progression far too convenient, impairing the viewing experience. The concept of time travel could be introduced much later in the story. However, Kaguya Otsutsuki will most likely not make an appearance in this manga.
While fans might yearn for a connection to the original series, the writers would most likely focus on sticking to the current generation characters.
