Boruto's Shibai Otsutsuki may not be as divine as fans think, and a potential twist in his origins may be the key

Boruto fans have had a lot of expectations for the character of Shibai Otsutsuki because of the lore behind him and the potential role he may have moving forward. Some even claim he could be the final boss of the Naruto sequel. However, while the idea of an all-powerful Otsutsuki who reached godhood is a compelling one, a fan on Reddit has come up with a subversion of said concept that is quite interesting.

The general idea is that Boruto has been establishing Shibai as this powerful entity that has managed to transcend beyond the mortal realms. However, there could be a massive twist that he is just someone trapped in another dimension. It could be a divisive decision and one that could spawn a lot of heated debates, although there is no denying that it would surprise a lot of people.

Boruto: Shibai Otsutsuki could be manipulating the events of the story out of boredom

This theory goes against what most fans of the series have assumed, stating that Shibai is not really a deity who is pulling the strings of the events of the series but rather an extremely powerful Otsutsuki who happens to be bored. He is simply manipulating the events of the story out of boredom and wants to mess things up for his own entertainment.

Naturally, Several fans don't have a similar perception, although there is no denying that this could be a very interesting twist. After all, there are a lot of mysteries surrounding the character of Shibai Otsutsuki since, based on Amado's stories, he ate multiple Chakra Fruits to the point of becoming an entity who transcended across realities, which is something that no one else in the franchise has accomplished.

In that regard, this theory would be a massive subversion of expectations but it is up for debate whether this is the right way to go for his character. Reducing Shibai to someone who is simply bored would be something quite divisive, especially considering how even the original Naruto had moments like that, such as the protagonist using his Sexy Jujtsu on Kaguya Otsutsuki.

There is no denying that Shibai Otsutsuki is arguably the most mysterious character in all of Boruto because of the way he has been described by Amado.

It is theorized that he was an Otsutsuki who ate multiple Chakra Fruits and became a god, to the point that he is no longer a part of the physical realm since he left behind his body, although, on paper, he is still alive.

This has led to many theories, with one of the most prominent being that he is going to reincarnate in the main character, although some have also come up with the idea he is going to do so with Code.

Be that as it may, most fans think he is going to be a major player at the end of the series and many of them believe he will be the final boss.
