Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 9 was released on April 19, 2024, and showcased some of the most hyped moments of the series yet. Although the spotlight of the chapter was the reveal of Himawari as the new Jinchuriki of Kurama, some fans loved the encounter between the protagonist, Boruto, and Kawaki.
After Kashin Koji informed Boruto about the God Trees invading the Hidden Leaf Village, the protagonist delayed no moment and instantly returned to the village. As soon as he returned, he met Kawaki who was adamant about taking him down. Unfortunately, he was utterly outdone by the protagonist and went to save his sister.
This could imply that the intensity of training both Boruto and Kawaki went through during the timeskip could be worlds apart. Where Boruto had aimed to show the world that he was different, Kawaki was just driven by anger and wanted to kill the former.

Boruto outclasses Kawaki and showcases his hard training in Boruto Two Blue Vortex chapter 9
According to chapter 9, the chapter started with Jura and Hidari coming across Himawari and the InoShikaCho group. Jura was surprised to know that the Kurama chakra he followed did not belong to Naruto but to his daughter Himawari.
After a little chitchat, Jura attacked Himawari with a tailed beast bomb, aiming to kill her. The InoShikaCho saved her and fled. While they were traveling away from the God Trees, Himawari got transported to the tailed-beast mental plane and met a baby Kurama.
On the other hand, Kawaki returned to his senses after Jura knocked him out in the previous chapter. He sensed Boruto's chakra and got ready to fight him. He snuck up on Boruto and hit him with his black receiver chakra rods.
Fortunately, the protagonist evaded his advances pretty easily and punched him in the gut. Kawaki was sent flying as Boruto mocked him for not training during the past 4 years. After he stood up, Kawaki awakened his Karma for a more heated battle. Boruto's Karma also resonated with Kawaki's but as the protagonist didn't want to risk Momoshiki taking over him, he fled.
Fans would remember an unfortunate scenario from the Boruto: Naruto Next Generation series when Boruto was outdone by Kawaki. During a fight with Code, Kawaki agreed to go with the antagonist, leaving Boruto worried. Both Kawaki and Boruto awakened their Karma powers and fought to decide whether the former would go with Code.
The fight came to a point where Boruto used his Karma to an extreme extent, thus awakening Momoshiki. Kawaki stopped holding back and went all out against Boruto, ultimately striking the protagonist in the heart. Boruto was fortunately reincarnated by Momoshiki but this was the protagonist's first hair-close escape with death.
Compared to that time, Boruto has grown much stronger. He trained to prove his innocence and protect his loved ones. On the other hand, Kawaki's only aim in life was to sate his anger by killing Boruto because he could be a major threat to the village (due to Momoshiki residing inside the protagonist). This could be why the protagonist utterly overpowered Kawaki without any competition.
Kawaki's strength as compared to Code
After the timeskip, the first person who went against the protagonist was the series' antagonist, Code. As expected, he still underestimated Boruto due to his brat-like nature. But the protagonist had grown and showed his growth to Code with his new Uzuhiko Rasengan.
Although Code didn't show much effect after being hit with the kind of Rasengan, his mental state was puzzled due to the effects of the technique. But he still withstood the situation better than Kawaki who was sent flying away by just a punch of Boruto.
