Bye Bye, Earth episode 1 recap
The episode starts with Belle Lablac traveling to Lake Chaser to exterminate a seed that had washed in from the sea. The Negroni had bloomed and spread poison in the freshwater lake by converting it into salt water. Upon defeating the Negroni with her huge sword called Runding, Belle returns home and reports her activities to her master, Sian Lablac, an Enola, which means instructor.
After dinner, Belle tells Sian that the anthropomorphic people are afraid of her as she is Featureless and looks nothing like them. Belle laments that it is painful to live alone, not being able to intermingle with the world. She fears that if it continues this way, she will soon be taken by the Army of Insatiable Emptiness, people who cannot enjoy the world anymore.
Sian suggests that she should go to Park City and undergo trials to become a nomad and then embark on a journey to find a world of her own. At night, she gets a flashback of her painful childhood and how she came to acquire her friend Runding.
In the morning, when she informs Sian that she is ready to become a nomad, he informs her that she has to take upon a curse as a last lesson. Sian curses Belle that she will have to live her entire life to fulfill the goal that she has undertaken to find her roots. But after placing the curse, Sian disappears from Belle's memories as she no longer needs memories of her master and only needs his teachings.
The episode ends with Sian telling a devastated Belle that one day she will learn the true meaning of Erehwon written on her sword, which means utopia.
