The Kaiju No. 8 anime was one of the Spring 2024 season's most well-received releases. Featuring a unique plot, memorable cast, and epic battles, the series left a lasting impression on viewers while also raising the hype for the upcoming season 2.

The season finale of Kaiju No. 8 adapted the 38th chapter of the manga, which marked the debut of Gen Narumi, the strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant in Japan and the captain of the Defense Force's First Division.

His unique skillset in the series often led fans to question - Can Gen Narumi see the future in Kaiju No. 8? To answer the question briefly, yes, while he technically possesses the ability to predict the movements of living beings while using RT-0001, he does not have the innate ability to see the future in a traditional sense of the said power.

Narumi's Numbers Weapon 1's powers explained

In Kaiju No. 8, Gen Narumi, the strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant in Japan, has an impressive arsenal of equipment that gives him the edge over most enemies. One of them is his personal Numbers Weapon, i.e., Numbers Weapon 1, which was provided to him by Izumo Tech.

The Defense Force's Numbers Weapons are crafted from the remains of the most powerful kaiju that were defeated by the combatants. Narumi's Numbers Weapon 1 is a special combat suit made from the corpse of Kaiju No.1, making it the oldest Numbers Weapon in the Defense Force of Japan.

It should also be mentioned that Kaiju No.1 was mostly renowned for hyper-advanced sensory abilities. As such, the Numbers Weapon 1 created from its remains significantly boosted Narumi's senses, notably his vision.

Numbers Weapon 1 has multiple eyes imbued into it, which allows Narumi to precisely predict the movements of one or more targets by reading the electrical signals within the target's body. He can detect movements and subtle details that are impossible for ordinary people to perceive, such as reading micro-movements like the tightening of muscles or shifts in balance. This allows him to predict his target's next move with near-perfect vision.

Gen Narumi's second personal weapon of choice is the RT-0001 (Retina-0001), which are a pair of outer-shell light spectacles that were grafted from the body of Kaiju No.1. It basically gives him the ability to visualize the brain signals of any living being, allowing him to predict their movements preemptively.

However, with the evolved version of RT-0001, Narumi was able to perceive the movements of electrons, temperature fluctuations, and every single detail of a location, thus making it possible for him to accurately predict what happens next. As such, with the evolved version of the weapon, Gen Narumi technically has the power to see the future, albeit at the cost of causing damage to his eyes if he uses them regularly.

Apart from being the 7th captain of the Defense Force's First Division, i.e., the strongest division, Gen Narumi is also renowned as the strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant in Japan.

Additionally, unlike other members of the Defense Force, Narumi can unleash about 98% of his combat suit's power, which can overpower almost anyone he faces. Apart from that, he possesses immense physical strength, incredible speed and reflexes, and tremendous levels of endurance, all of which enabled him to rise to the top and claim the title of the strongest.

He is also extremely skilled in wielding a bayonet to defeat and kill a kaiju. Furthermore, after training under Isao Shinomiya, the director general of the Defense Force, Narumi became a master hand-to-hand combatant, a skilled sharpshooter, and an excellent swordsman.

Final Thoughts

Overall, it's easy to see how Gen Narumi achieved the title of the strongest in Kaiju No. 8, especially due to his foresight ability and exceptional fighting prowess. However, notably, despite being hailed as the strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant, Narumi never once defeated his mentor and the director general of the Defense Force, Isao Shinomiya, in a fight.

This is because after Shinomiya recognized that Narumi had the potential to surpass him, he kept up with his own training to continue being a "wall" that Narumi would eventually overcome one day.
