Monday, January 13, 2025 saw Netflix begin streaming a new trailer for its upcoming Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 animated series, premiering this Thursday, January 16. While the trailer announcement doesn’t feature any new release information, it does excitingly give a look at the upcoming season via brand new footage.
Likewise, the roughly two-and-a-half minute long trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 gives fans the best idea they’ve had yet of the direction the new season will take. As expected, Alucard seems set to play a major role in the second season, teaming with protagonist Richter Belmont to take down France’s vampiric threat.
Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 teases plenty of action and drama in latest promotional video
The Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 begins with Alucard teasing that he knows more about the queen of vampires Erzsebet Báthory than he initially let on. Scenes of Erzsebet and Richter’s confrontation from the first season play out here as he says this, with Richter expressing disappointment in his failure. Richter’s grandfather and several other characters are then seen comforting Richter while also asking how they can kill her.
Alucard asserts that a Belmont is the only one who can kill her, while Erzsebet decides to have her vampires march on Paris to end the French Revolution. Several characters are seen preparing for battle in the following sequence, including shots of Richter and Alucard getting ready for battle which tease a team up between them. This is teased via the relative composition of the shots, as well as each scene having a nearly identical background.
The trailer then sees Alucard gathering allies from the French Revolution, also leading them in battle against some rank-and-file vampires. Richter speaks about how the world is changing so fast with all the death and evil in it, questioning if there’s a place in this new world for him and the others. Richter’s grandfather offers some encouraging words before a rapid-fire string of action sequences from all the central characters plays out.
The trailer continues with a focus on these various fight sequences until its end, with various out-of-context dialogue playing over it as the trailer ends on this focus. The trailer also reconfirms the second season’s release date of Thursday, January 16 as mentioned above. The second season is officially confirmed to have eight 25-minute episodes, matching season 1’s length in terms of episode count.
Castlevania: Nocturne is a spinoff series of the mainline Castlevania animated show, which initially premiered on Netflix in July 2017. Nocturne stars Richter Belmont, a descendant of the original series’ protagonists Sypha Belnades and Trevor Belmont, and Maria Renard. The story is set in France during the French Revolution in 1792, and is meant to serve as an origin story for Richter. Like Trevor and Sypha, Richter and Maria also appear in the original video game franchise.
