Chainsaw Man chapter 172 was released today and continued with the events of the previous chapter as Denji transformed into the Hero of Hell once again, going on a rampage against the new Special Division of Public Safety. While these new characters weren't much of a challenge for the Chainsaw Devil, there was the twist of the latter erasing the Ear Devil, thus removing said body part from human history.
Indeed, Chainsaw Man chapter 172 was a lot more action-focused and continued to display Denji's fall into despair after Nayuta's death, which is now going to determine certain plot points moving forward. The most recent chapter also has a small conversation between Yoru and Katana Man, thus showing how their ears were erased because of the Hero of Hell's actions.

Chainsaw Man chapter 172 sees Denji going on a rampage and erasing the Ear Devil
The Hero of Hell is back on the battlefield
The events of Chainsaw Man chapter 172 picked up where the previous one left off, as Denji reached his Hero of Hell form and began to go on a rampage after dismembering Barem Bridge. This also came in the form of the new Special Division that Public Safety had crafted for this very moment, although things proved to be a lot harder for them than they initially thought.
Indeed, the Chainsaw Devil began to tear the Special Division one by one as none of them proved to be a challenge for him in the process. The special Division 6 also began operation with an explosion and throwing the Centipede Devil to attack Denji, but the latter managed to slice it in pieces without much problem.
Perhaps the most notorious element of Chainsaw Man chapter 172 is how the Hero of Hell ate the Ear Devil, thus erasing ears from human existence. This comes on full display in the final two pages of the chapter as Katana Man and Yoru are discussing Denji's disappearance, and the reader can see they no longer have ears.
Chainsaw Man chapter 172: In summation
This chapter was mostly very action-focused and had a lot of fighting scenes, which was sorely lacking during most portions of the second part of this Tatsuki Fujimoto manga. Furthermore, it also showed how Denji and Pochita's Hero of Hell form is still as strong as it was during his fight with Makima at the end of the first part.
There is also the fact that Chainsaw Man chapter 172 was mostly focused on the action and didn't move the story forward all that much, but it was a necessary direction to take after Nayuta's death. It also displayed the classic Fujimoto humor as the character erased ears from human existence, which is something that a lot of readers found very funny.
There is also a very good chance that the upcoming chapters are going to show other ways Public Safety has in store to take care of Denji and get him to do what he wants. It is also very likely that Katana Man and Yoru are going to get involved in the conflict in some shape or form.
