Chainsaw Man chapter 173 will be released on August 6, 2024, and will continue the fight between the Hero of Hell and Public Safety. While the new special division squad was hyped up during chapter 171, they were quickly defeated by Chainsaw Man, who then continued on to defeat another squad to devour the Ear Devil.

Chapter 172 ended with the Hero of Hell eating the Ear Devil and erasing the entire concept and being of ears from the Chainsaw Man universe. While many fans think this might be a permanent change, many others believe it might just be a setup for a Yoru vs. Chainsaw Man fight where Yoru will make Chainsaw Man throw up all of the concepts that he has devoured.

In Chainsaw Man chapter 172, the chaos continues as Denji, in his Hero of Hell form, goes on a rampage after dismembering Barem Bridge. The new Special Division, crafted by Public Safety for this very moment, faces a tougher challenge than anticipated.

The Hero of Hell then defeats the Special Division with ease. Special Division 6 initiates their operation with an explosion, sending the Centipede Devil to attack Denji, but he swiftly slices it to pieces.

While the Public Safety department was evidently trying to eliminate the Hero of Hell, he simply defeated both of the special division squads that were sent and then proceeded to eat the Ear Devil. The chapter ends with Yoru and Katana Man trying to discuss Denji's disappearance, but to their surprise, their ears were completely gone.

Chainsaw Man chapter 173 might see Yoru directly confronting Chainsaw Man in order to make him expel all the different concepts he has devoured and erased. It is also entirely possible that the Hero of Hell runs a gauntlet against numerous other devils since the Devil Hunter has been shown to have some hidden motive behind targeting Chainsaw Man, despite the risks of losing the concept of ears.
