Chainsaw Man chapter 179 was expected to see a fully recovered Pochita begin eating the Aging Devil after being revived by consuming the Primal Fear’s blood. Officially released on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the issue did open with a focus on Pochita revving his engine once again, at least being partially recovered from his injuries.

However, Chainsaw Man chapter 179 instead saw Pochita turn away from the Aging Devil and crawl back to the sign he was holding, asking others to give blood. As this happened, Asa Mitaka and War Devil Yoru had an interesting series of interactions, seemingly revealing that neither can maintain full, unadulterated control over their shared body.

Chainsaw Man chapter 179: Best-laid plans

Chainsaw Man chapter 179 begins with Pochita, now having regenerated his arms, pulling his starter cord to rev his engine. He then crawls towards and past the Aging Devil, instead going for the sign he was holding, asking others to give blood. The Aging Devil is confused by this, crouching down to ask Pochita if his head is completely empty. War Devil Yoru then walks up to the pair as this happens, assuming the Aging Devil was trying to steal her kill.

She begins aiming at Pochita as a horrified Asa pleads with her to stop since Chainsaw Man is on his last legs and that’s enough to say she won. Yoru tells her to be quiet since he still isn’t hers, elaborating that she plans to make Chainsaw Man her weapon. She tries to comfort Asa with Famine Devil Fami’s words about how this will let both of their wishes be granted, but Asa asks Yoru if she really believes that, to which she says she does.

Chapter 179 then sees the pair switch positions, with Asa now in control of their shared body to Yoru’s surprise. Yoru intriguingly demands that Asa give back her body (specifically claiming ownership here) while demanding that Asa stop fearing her. Asa rejects this, which causes Yoru to say she’ll back off for now, before realizing that Asa is truly afraid of her and commenting on how that hurts.

Asa seemingly relinquishes control given this, but Yoru abuses her trust by launching another attack from the Gun Goddess at Pochita and the Aging Devil. The index finger bullet, now revealed to be giant in comparison to the Aging Devil’s size, races across the ocean and hovers in the air just before hitting its target, the Aging Devil itself.

Chainsaw Man chapter 179 sees the Aging Devil say it can’t believe that the War Devil thinks she can kill it with an attack like this. The Aging Devil then touches its hand to the giant index finger bullet, which starts to crumble. It adds that neither Chainsaw Man nor the War Devil is mature enough to talk to it as the bullet crumbles into dust. The issue ends on this panel, with the Aging Devil’s dialogue saying that it’s time to have them grow up.

Chainsaw Man chapter 179: In summation

While a quick issue that isn’t super eventful, chapter 179 does at least set up an exciting string of issues when the series returns from its break week. Specifically, it seems like a massive three-way battle between Pochita, the Aging Devil, and War Devil Yoru is set to commence. This will likely be the explosive climax of the current arc and may see Public Safety’s plans fall apart before they even truly begin.
