Chainsaw Man chapter 182 was expected to continue focusing on Denji and Asa Mitaka’s interactions as they explored the Aging Devil’s Garden of Eden-esque world. Officially released on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the issue did indeed focus on Denji and Asa/War Devil Yoru, but not in the manner fans were expecting.

Rather than exploring their surroundings, Chainsaw Man chapter 128 saw Denji have an emotional conversation with both Yoru and Asa, albeit not realizing the difference. Nevertheless, the issue primarily focused on developing the pair as characters, with some shocking developments along the way that blur the line between humans and Devils.

Chainsaw Man chapter 182 blurs the lines between Asa and Yoru, and Denji and Pochita

Chainsaw Man chapter 182 began with Yoru continuing to kiss Denji, whose eyes were open with shock. She pulled away shortly thereafter, saying that crying won’t help them escape and that he needed to help her come up with an escape plan. Denji, though, demanded an answer as to why she kissed him. Yoru got bashful at this before saying he’s cute when he cries, suggesting that Yoru’s emotions for Denji are at least somewhat genuine.

Denji said nothing at this while the two stared at each other, prompting Yoru to go in for yet another kiss. However, Denji pushed her away, angrily demanding to know why she keeps coming onto him. He lamented that his life seemed to alternate between risqué and downright terrible. Denji admits that this is driving him crazy, while Yoru stood motionlessly and silently watching him as he did so.

Chainsaw Man chapter 182 then saw Denji lament how when physical intimacy presents itself, it becomes all he can think about. He adds that he can’t reflect on his mistakes or missteps, calling himself hopeless as he continued sobbing the entire time. Yoru then begins discussing that she once also felt hopeless, losing people who were like family to her. Denji responds positively to this, but Yoru ruins it by cheerily saying she got over it.

She furthers that if she was able to overcome it then he can too while smiling. She begins to say something else as Denji looks at her in disbelief, but she doesn’t finish her sentence. Instead, Yoru punches herself in the face, which is clearly Asa Mitaka’s doing. Denji is shocked to see this as Asa sits silently for a moment.

Chainsaw Man chapter 182 sees her begin telling him the story about when she and her mother were running from a Devil, and that her mother sacrificed herself for her after she tripped. Denji is shocked to hear this as she continues to blame herself for her mother’s death. She adds that she still thinks about it every day, wondering what would’ve happened if she didn’t trip, if she was faster, or if she could turn back time with a Devil’s power.

Denji asks her how she got over it, prompting Asa to look at him and say there’s no way she could and that it’s just not possible. However, she adds that Chainsaw Man, i.e. Denji taught him that she still has something to live for. She adds that it’s something she’s looking forward to so much that she’s willing to put up with almost anything.

Chainsaw Man chapter 182 sees Denji earnestly and passionately look at her before a scared look appears on his face. His cheeks then swell up like he’s going to puke, prompting him to throw up a Devil’s head despite being in his base state. Both of them are shocked to see this and awed at the fact that it began snowing in the Aging Devil’s world as soon as what appears to be the Snow Devil’s head was thrown up.

Asa and Denji are both shocked to see snowfall as the panel borders begin to turn black, with a shot of a boat’s bow sailing on a snow day appearing. The issue then ends on a panel of two characters, which are clearly Power and Aki Hayakawa looking out on the ocean while on the boat. Notably, Aki’s left arm is missing, suggesting this flashback to take place sometime during the later half of Part 1, the Public Safety Saga.

Final thoughts

While certainly not the installment fans were expecting, Chainsaw Man chapter 182 is nonetheless an exciting and enthralling issue for several reasons. The most significant of these is the Aki and Power flashback via the memory which returned to Denji as a result of the Snow Devil’s revival. However, the issue is also intriguing for its continual blurring of the lines between Devils and humans via Pochita and Denji, and Yoru and Asa.
